I LUV all things beauty, makeup & fashion. But I wasn’t always this way, and it took me a long time (22 years to be exact) to master my skills. With shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Pretty Little Liars, and Gossip Girl, young girls have flocked to their mirror, quick to point out their flaws, leading to developing insecurities. With these insecurities, comes the need to be perfect. I would just like to start with saying that no one is perfect, not even Kim K. That woman has a huge team of stylists and makeup artists behind her look and tbh, she’s pretty much an alien conducted in a lab (by really hot scientists). So before you kill your confidence before you allow yourself to thrive, read these 8 tips on how to flawlessly slay your makeup.
1. Foundation.
We’ve all been there where we bought a shade of foundation waaay too light or way too dark for our skin. The best thing I’ve ever done is go to Sephora and have the girls match my skintone and skin type. I've tried so many different foundations and for the past 2 years I've been obsessed with the Double Wear Foundation by Estee Lauder. I apply it with my Beauty Blender and it covers flawlessly, I absolutely love it. Quick tip- run your beauty blender under water for about 30 seconds, squeeze the excess water out until it's damp, then apply your foundation. The results are pure slayage.
2. Lashes.
Since I was like 13 I've been coating my lashes from the bottom to the top and it never has come out flawless, so I was wondering what the problem was! So I started coating at the top of my lashes first, then working my way down and OMG the difference is crazy. My lashes have so much more volume this way! The mascara I swear by is Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced. It's everything and more. Also, when your mascara is running low, add a few drops of Visene to the tube and mix it around with the brush. Works like a charm.
3. Sun-kissed.
Blush is iffy to mess with, because if you apply too much in the wrong area, you’ll probably end up looking like a clown, and that’s definitely not what we want. What I find helpful is applying a pink blush to your cheeks before applying foundation for a youthful glow.
4. Holy Brows.
Remember when eyebrows weren't even important? Kinda miss those days. I used to get my eyebrows waxed on the daily (when thin brows were the thing) and now I get them waxed about every 4 months and just clean them up by tweezing here and there. For filling them in, I use the Anastasia Brow Wiz. I'd definitely suggest watching a tutorial on how to fill them in, it took me a little while to figure it out.
5. Highlight.
Ugh, my latest obsession. I love a heavy highlight because I love the glowy look; the best highlighter I've used is the Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder. It's literally AMAZING and sooo worth the $30. I love a heavy highlight so I layer my highlight with a cheap cream highlighter, like this NYX one, then set it with my Naked powder.
6. Cat eye.
Shout out to my bestie for teaching me how to properly cat eye. I can't tell you how many times I've had to wipe a perfect eyeshadowed eye because I've screwed up my liner. Watching others techniques is how I developed my own, and overtime I've perfected it! It's all about practice, practice, practice! This might sound weird but apply mascara before liquid eyeliner, it helps guide your cat eye.
7. Bronza.
When I was in highschool, I literally covered every inch of my face in bronzer. It was a mess. With time, I came to learn the difference between highlighting and contouring. Bronzer should be applied where the sun would hit your face- forehead, bridge of nose, cheekbone and chin.
8. Set yo look.
Finish your look off with a setting spray that makes your makeup last all day and night. My fave is the Urban Decay Long Lasting setting spray. It runs at about $30, but I’d grab the travel size for $14 to see how you like it (but I promise you’ll love it).
I hope these 8 tips help you slaaaayyy your makeup like the queen you are! Aside from these tips, I found watching YouTube videos on specific things very helpful, some ideas being, getting the perfect cat eye, filling in your brows, foundation reviews, overdrawing your lip, and contouring. Sometimes when you watch someone else do makeup perfectly, you pick up on their technique and then automatically you’re a natural! Get it, girl.
