Every year I start to get summer fever. Who would not look forward to summer dresses, day trips down the shore, or camping in the Poconos. I love being able to drink an ice coffee and not need gloves. People begin tanning on the lawn. To top it off, there is a Rita's, Kiwi Yogurt, and Coldstone right downtown. Of course no one forgets about the Berkey Creamery, the largest university creamery in the nation. For those of you who won't be in State College this summer, check out these sweet treats.
1. An ice cream sandwich. This simple classic will take you back to the days of summer camp. You can keep it in your freezer and whip it out for a throwback. If you're not a fan of chocolate wafers go crazy with a chipwich.
2. Frozen Fruit. Yes, there is fantastic fresh fruit in the summer but frozen cherries and peaches are delicious. They're cooler and crunchier. Frozen fruit also goes great in smoothies. I am a huge fan of Jersey bllueberries.
3. Chobani Flips. Yogurt? Before you say anything just check out these flips. With 160-240 calories, about 19g of sugar, and 12g of protein, it's is a tasty and chilled alternative to candy bars that satisfy your summer sweet tooth. Perhaps you're a 'chocolate haze craze' fan. I personally like the 'key lime crumble.' It's like my personal key lime pie.
4. Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard. This custard will put frozen yogurt our of the water. It's is a creamy soft serve custard sold in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida. The peanut butter is on point. It's definitely a shore signature.
5. Fruit Crisps. If you're one who likes to bake, fruit crisps are delicious and easy. You can always adjust a recipe after you've made it. They're great for get togethers and are hard to mess up. Here's a recipe for Paula Deen's strawberry rhubarb ginger crisp.
6. Steve's Ice Cream. Steve's claims to be a leader in small batch ice cream and ice cream mix-ins. It offers a wide variety of flavors that are both dairy and dairy-free. This 'Sunday Morning' flavor even has gluten free waffle crisps for your friends who can't get ice cream cones.
7. Mochi Ice Cream. They're just really cute. Try them once in your life. You can even find them at Trader Joes. I am not sure when else I would jump for green tea ice cream.
8. S'mores. So maybe they don't taste as good as they did when we were five. Playing chubby bunny with the marshmallows is still fun in the summre.
