Dr. Seuss, who is still recognized as one of the most successful children's book authors, did not begin his career the way most might believe. In fact his very first manuscript, "And to Think I saw it on Mulberry Street," was rejected 28 times before finally being published in 1937.
3.Elvis Presley
Today, most people remember him as being "The King of Rock 'n Roll." However, growing up, Elvis and his family were very poor and struggled to make ends meet. He was rejected countless times after trying to get a record deal and have his music heard. With determination, he did not give up on his dreams and continued on to sell more than 1 billion records worldwide.
4. Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey is a renowned comedian, actor, and entrepreneur who also had a rough start in life. He worked as a janitor to help support his family, and get them back on their feet. He was booed off of the stage during his first comedy gig, and felt completely embarrassed. However, he did not give up on his dreams. He later quit high school and moved to L.A where he would pursue his career. At age 32, he landed his break through roll in the movie "Ace Ventura."
5. Michael Jordan
Jordan once said, ”I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." At age 15, he did not make the varsity team and admits to feeling completely heart broken. However, he continued to work hard and at the age of 21, he entered the NBA as a professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls. Today, he is considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
6. Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg was rejected both times he applied to attend film school at University of Southern California. He did not let this stop him, and continued on to create amazing films such as Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, E.T, The Color Purple etc...
7. J.K Rowling
J.K Rowling is the author of the popular series, Harry Potter. However, what most do not know is that it took nearly 7 years, and 12 rejected publications for her to actually get her book noticed and published. She is now a billionaire.
8. Oprah Winfrey
Oprah's childhood was a child's worst nightmare. She lived in poverty for much of her early life, and was molested by her cousin, uncle, and family friend. At age 13, she ran away from home, and became pregnant at age 14. The baby was born prematurely and died shortly after birth.
After college, she moved to Baltimore to anchor the news, but was later removed by the producer for being "unfit for television." Today she is a multi-billionaire, and one of the most well respected names in the industry.
