8 Fall-Themed Snacks You Need in Your Life

The weather is starting to cool down and mornings are misty and creepy. Leaves are starting to change colors and suddenly stores are overrun by pumpkin spice foods. That can only mean one thing: Fall is here! Time to get in that Halloween spirit by trying out these 8 Fall-themed snacks and treats.

1. Caramel Apples

This is an autumn staple plus it’s super easy! Grab some apples, some lollipop or popsicle sticks, and a bag of chewy caramels. That’s all you need! Melt the caramels in a pot on the stove or in the microwave and dip. Want to get super fancy? Coat your finished beauties in candy pieces, crushed cereal, melted chocolate or peanut butter, marshmallows… The possibilities are endless! More instructions here.

2. Ingredient Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Seriously, how could you say no to only two ingredients? Mix spice cake mix and a can of pumpkin puree and bake. It’s that simple. For extra sweetness, smear some cream cheese frosting on top. Recipe here.

3. Homemade Butterfingers

Who doesn’t love butterfingers? And making them yourself if easier than you’d think. Melt a bag of candy corn and two cups of peanut butter in the microwave. Mix them together and freeze in a sheet. Cut those bad boys up and dip them in chocolate. Or just drop the whole pan in melted chocolate for a DIY king size. I won’t judge. See the video here.

4. Rice Krispie Ghosts

This was my favorite Halloween treat as a kid. Make rice krispie treats the way mom used to (the recipe is on the cereal box). Cut them into ghosts and add some chocolate chips or black icing for eyes and a spooky mouth. Why stop there? Get creative with shapes and toppings. Ideas here

5. Candy Corn Cups

For whatever reason, some people try to eat healthy around Halloween. For those of you with way more self control than me, keep all the fun of candy corn without all the sugar. Layer yellow fruits like mango, pineapple, or peaches underneath orange slices and top with whipped cream or yogurt. Candy corn without the guilt! See it here

6. Drappula Teeth

I’m a sucker for a good pun (hehehe) but this is adorable. Cut apples into slices, smear some peanut butter on each, and smush some marshmallows or peanuts in between two slices for a spooky mouth. Check it out here.

7. Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Also a harvest necessity in my life. These can be made any way you like! After you finish carving your perfect jack-o-lantern, save the pumpkin seeds, rinse them, and coat with melted butter and the toppings of your choice. I like brown sugar, or pumpkin pie seasoning. Try salt and vinegar or Parmesan for a savory flavor. Roast them in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes. More flavors and directions here

8. Harvest snack mix

Definitely the easiest and possibly the tastiest of all. Combine all your favorite Halloween snacks into a giant bowl and dig in! Chex Mix, M&Ms, candy corn, pretzels or popcorn, nuts, cereal, Cheez-Its, dried fruit, Reese’s cups, Bugles, Fritos, mini graham crackers, I could keep going. Pick your top five and throw ‘em in a bowl, then cuddle up and watch Halloweentown.

Half the fun of fall is all the delicious flavors and treats that come with it. Try all of these tasty treats during your horror movie marathon, or impress your costume party guests. Or just eat them all yourself, which is what I’ll be doing.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
