8 DIY Projects For Your First Apartment

As graduation is fast approaching, I'm starting to think about all the real world encounters I will soon be having to deal with. Although, I will definitely be living at home for quite a while until I have enough money to move out on my own -- I can't help, but start to plan all the cute "must haves" for my first apartment. Whether you're moving out of your childhood home to a new apartment or your first college apartment, here are a few easy, cute ideas to include in your decor.

1. Personalized Home Map

Whether you're living with your best friends or a significant other, this is a super cute idea to document the first place you guys lived together. You might even keep up the tradition and do this for each place you live which can serve as a nice trip down memory lane later on in life.

2. Weekly Menu Board

At the beginning of each week, pick a different option every night for dinner. This is a simple, fun way to eliminate any debate or wasted time trying to decide what to eat each night.

3. Frame Key Holder

Put this easy DIY holder right next to your front door for the convenience of just grabbing your keys on your way out. This way you're bound to never forget your keys!

4. Wooden Coffee Cup Holder

Calling all coffee lovers -- this is a must. Not only is it a cute idea, but it provides easy access to those cups to get your morning fix.

5. No Sew Cat Hammock

Maybe I'm just biased because I have a cat, but this cute and easy idea is a must to make sure your furry friends are nothing but comfy.

6. Wood Panel Shoe Rack

All this takes is an old ladder and a few panels of wood to create more than enough space to fit all your shoes. If you're anything like me, this will come in handy and cut down on any clutter.

7. Laundry Basket Organizer

When I began college, laundry was one of the things I dreaded most -- I'm sure most people can agree. This DIY Laundry Organizer can be used by anybody, whether you know how to do laundry or not. Designating certain bins for the different colors makes it easy and simple. The organizing beforehand will save you a lot of unnecessary time.

8. Mason Jar Vanity Organizer

A woman's vanity is hands down one of the messiest places you'll ever see. No matter how many times you organize everything and say it will stay that way, it simply will not over time. These simple mason jars attached to the wall or a wood panel will provide a convenient spot for you to put each designated item in.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
