Having a best friend that doesn't live in the same city as you has to be one of the most frustrating things in the world. Life isn't always fair. For example, you may meet your best friend, your person, you're one of a kind of friend and then have to move more than 200 miles away from them. I have learned so much about myself and my ability to hold on to my relationships while having a best friend that lives so far away. It's not always easy, there is a lot of difficulties as well.
1. No one understands me like she does.
She's the one who understands that when I say I'm hungry she knows we are getting a pizza, or she understands that when I've had a bad day I just need a drive, a milkshake, fries, Taylor Swift songs, and her.
2. Jealousy is inevitable.
You can sit there and pretend that you aren't jealous of your best friend going on random adventures with her friends, we all know that's not true. I know the people she surrounds herself with are nothing short of spectacular. I am so grateful for her friends, because I know they love her (a little less) too.
3. FaceTime and phone calls aren't the same.
Hearing her voice on the phone as I am winding down from the day I had or seeing her face through my phone screen, isn't the same. Nothing comes close to being right next to her telling each other how our days went and talk about who did what. (You're totally the Louis to my Harry btw)4. We don't always answer.
When we lived together knew each other's schedules like the back of our hands. We knew the times we had a good twenty minutes so we can have lunch and we always knew we'd come home to one another. However, being more than 200 miles apart changes things, we don't know when we aren't as busy so that we can answer that text or return a call, it's not that we are ignoring each other, at all. It's just things are different now.
5. You can't just randomly show up at their door.
Well, you can, but it's not as simple as walking out of your room just to walk in to hers. There is so much planning that goes in to wanting to see each other and we just wish it was back to the easier days sometimes.
6. Old jokes and Netflix nights with anyone else just isn't right.
I mean who else would lay in the same position all day laughing over the same jokes and re-watching our favorite Grey's Anatomy episode with us?
7. You feel as if half of you is missing.
There are so many wonderful people in our lives that we would not trade for the world, but it does not make it any better that our best friend is miles away. There's no one there to listen to you be frustrated about your shoes not matching your shirt or how you shouldn't have eaten that last slice of pizza last night.
8. However, nothing beats the day you finally get to see each other.
Nothing worth having is ever easy, and our friendship is so worth having. Nothing is as exciting as the day one of us texts the other to let them know they bought the plane ticket for the best friend adventures that await. When we finally get to be together and it's as if nothing has changed. Nothing can come close to that feeling of overwhelming love that we feel when we finally get to sing along to a Taylor Swift song in the car sharing a large McDonald's chocolate milkshake.
I love you!!!!
