Ah, the summer time. One of the best parts about the summer is getting a lot more free time, and that means a lot more time with Netflix. The truth about binge-watching is that there are just way too many reasons we do it, and even more reasons why we don't stop. It's a lifestyle that you can understand only if you've experienced these things, and let's be honest, most of us have. Here are a few guilty confessions every binge-watcher will have to admit they do or think:

1. Thinking to yourself, "Hmm, five seasons of this show on Netflix. Who says I'll have to stop at one?" Guess the binge-watching has to start somewhere, starting with one episode until somehow you've finished all five. Oops.

2. When you realize there is so much you have to do, but for some reason Netflix seems to be a lot more important. Forget about work and priorities, you have a show to watch.

3. The show has become a part of your daily life. Who says television isn't real? Whatever the characters in your favorite show are doing have just taken a part of you, and you can't help but binge-watch to find out what they'll do next. Yes, it just got personal.

4. When the show you watched like crazy ends, you feel kind of empty. After all, it was an investment that you didn't think would end, and now that it did, you're left thinking "Um, hello? Did I say you could leave me?"

5. Those days you promise yourself you'll only watch ten more minutes, which turn into one hour, which quickly turns into five. Who knew time flew by so quickly?

6. The late nights. Sleep is tempting, but how can you head to your bed when you still have three episodes left in this season to watch? You can blame the headache you have the following morning on the shows that got you hooked just a bit too much.

7. People question what you actually do besides stay glued to your computer or TV set. And you try to convince them that you actually do a lot more than they think, even though you know you're not fooling anyone.

8. Even if you're binge-watching one show, you have a long list of other ones you plan to watch after. After all, you can't proudly display the decree of Binge-Watcher without having a good list of attributes to support it! So how about another one?

All in all, binge-watching is not just a hobby, but it's a title that makes up a huge part of our lives. And these might just be "shows," but let's be real: the plots and characters become a part of us and are something that we carry with us for a long time.

So here's to all the shows we've binge-watched, and the shows that are waiting for us in the future.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
