As college students it’s easy to feel lost at times. That could mean behind a pile of books, homework, feelings, or just lost in our own heads. This is a time in our lives when we are searching for validations of our thoughts and feelings in others to know that we’re really not alone in this crazy little life of ours. Carrie Underwood has a way with words and seems to have a song to help with every feeling you may ever experience as a college student. Here’s some ways how…

1. Lessons Learned

College is the time when life presents itself with an excessive amount of lessons. These lessons are a range of good and bad, but each one shapes who we are as a person. We rise to the peak of our struggles, learning to expect what is and the be grateful for the everything we’ve learned. We learn to take the experiences that we’ve had along the way and grow from them.

2. The More Boys I Meet

LOVE. We all want to experience it. We all want to find our prince charming, but let’s be real for a second, boys don’t make it easy. You’re going to experience heartbreak before you find that one person you’re supposed to spend the rest of your life with. In the meantime, love yourself, enjoy yourself, and do all the things that make you happy.

3. Young and Beautiful

College is your prime time. You’re young and you’re beautiful no matter how many times you tell yourself you aren’t. Don’t let anyone (even yourself) tell you that you aren’t. Stay happy, stay beautiful and enjoy being young.

4. Jesus Take the Wheel

Every girl’s life motto when finals week rolls around. Or simply when things get hard. We pray for the best. Sometimes it’s easier to take a deep breath, take a step back and pray that it’ll all work out. Things aren’t always as bad as they seem.

5. Temporary Home

Cherish the place you call your home away from home, as it will forever be a part of you.

6. Clock Don’t Stop

Tomorrow isn’t promised, so make the most of today. A lot of us fail to realize that tomorrow isn’t promise but we never do things as if it’s our last day. Time waits for no one. Forgiveness is important and tomorrow is no guarantee. So don’t be afraid to take a chance. You never know when it’s going to be too late. You have to forgive the ones you love before it’s too late. You have to make your own chances before they leave forever. Time is not always on your side, it can go in the blink of an eye.

7. Whenever You Remember

This one hits home for me. For all my seniors, when we look back on these days that are quickly coming to an end, remember how lucky we are. Remember the good and the bad. Remember the people, the places, the way you felt. Remember the way it all filled your heart because nothing will compare to this. It’s our time now, we’ve worked hard for this and it’s almost here.

8. Don’t Forget to Remember Me

Another one that hits close to home for me as a senior. But no matter where we go from here, near or far, remember what we had. Remember our friendships, the memories and everything in between. Remember where you came from, and where you’ve been. Remember where you’re supposed to be and that you’ll never be forgotten.

Thanks to Carrie, I hope you know you’re not alone. We’re all going through it together because it’s this crazy beautiful thing called life.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
