The Macy’s Day Parade, a time-honored tradition in many families including mine. Since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year, I have fond memories of watching the parade every Thanksgiving with my family. In honor of the 90th Anniversary of The Macy’s Day Parade, I decided to make a list of the best parts of the parade.
1.The Balloons! Who doesn’t like to see our favorite characters float down the streets of New York City. My personal favorite is the Pillsbury Doughboy; he’s just too adorable. This year the balloon to see was Trixie the Dog, modeled after the parade’s executive producer’s dog, with her springy little legs.
2. The Floats! So much time and hard work goes into the floats of the parade. My favorite this year were Tom the Turkey and Snoopy’s Doghouse. Some of the floats include extra surprises from famous singers, actors, and performers.
3. Marching Bands! The best high school marching bands are chosen to perform along with other amazing bands. The performances never fail to impress.
4. Rockettes! Having seen the Rockettes in person when I was younger, I have always been fascinated with the group’s performances. Seeing them perform in the parade is always a treat.
5. Broadway! There are always a number of Broadway acts throughout the parade. This year there was even a performance from NBC’s upcoming Hairspray Live!
6. Santa! Now I know a lot of people like to skip right over Thanksgiving and start celebrating Christmas in the beginning of November, but for me, Christmas doesn’t start until I see Jolly Old Saint Nicholas in the Macy’s Day Parade.
7. The National Dog Show. Right after the parade the National Dog Show airs, and who doesn’t like to watch a show all about dogs.
8. Exactly a Month Until Christmas Eve! For those of you who love Christmas more than everything, this Thanksgiving and parade marked a month until the best holiday.
Thanksgiving is a great time of year and the Macy’s Day parade makes it even better. If you don’t watch the parade I highly suggest you start next year.
