We see it on T-shirts. We see in on memes. We constantly hear it on people's lips: "I HATE MONDAYS."
The start of an entire week's worth the work, the sudden jolt of an alarm clock, the end of sleeping in. There is an unspoken rule that any and all mistakes made on Mondays can be excused with a sleepy, "Sorry, I'm having a Monday." The problem comes when the monotony of "having a Monday" ruins our lives.
You see, if you live to be 85, you will have 4,420 Mondays. That may not sound like a lot considering that there will also be 26,520 other days until you realize that you have Mondays will encompass 106,080 hours. That is 6,364,800 minutes. That is 381,888,000 seconds. That's a lot of Monday- far too much of your time to spend wishing it was over.
If you hate Mondays, there's a problem with your perspective. Not your calendar.
We may not be able to change the day of the week, but we can certainly change our attitude. If we allow ourselves to get in the habit of wishing away the moment that we're in we will never have a chance to enjoy the beauty around us. We see the Monday Hating Mindset ruining moments all around us.
Middle schoolers can't wait to drive. High schoolers just want to graduate. College kids are itching to work a real job. Working-age people can't wait to retire. For some reason, the thing that we want and "need" so desperately is so far out of reach that we don't love what's right in front of us.
Our inability to stop and appreciate the things directly in front of us may cause us to miss out on things even better than Mondays- our poor perspective may cost us precious moments with friends and family that are only here for a season. If we allow our self to fall into the habit of discrediting our present just because we are looking forward, the roses will wither long before we ever think to stop and smell them.
Whether it's the day of the week or the life stage we are in, we have love what's around us. If we spend all of our time wishing for what's next, we run the risk of never get there. If we choose to make small changes in our perspective, it's amazing how much our lives will change- so make Mondays your favorite!
Love the chance to have a better week this week, be grateful for the chance to start over! Be thankful for the Mondays, because you only get 4,420 of them. Love your life as it comes, because we only get one of those.
