7 Things to Do When Stuck at the Airport

Are you bored out of your mind because your flight got delayed? Have you been sitting in the airport for hours and have no idea what to do? Did the airport only provide 30 minutes of free wifi and you’ve been sitting there for 3 hours? If so, here are some ideas to keep you entertained while you wait.

1. Eat food. Food is always a good idea. Anywhere. Anytime.

2. People watch. What are those people eating over there? Where can I get some of that ice cream? Is that a dog?? Nope, it's a tiny toddler in a furry coat. What language are those people speaking? It's all Greek to me.

3. Drink water. Then watch the TV screens about conserving water because of the drought and stop drinking water. (LAX cough, cough) But really, remember to drink water.

4. Make friends. Were you delayed too? Was your flight changed too? Okay, now we're officially best friends.

5. Wander around. Try to discover the exciting things the airport has to offer.

6. Write a postcard. Trust me, it can be done. I’ve done it. One of the stores will sell a postcard and you’ll have to visit another store to buy a stamp and then you’ll have to search for a mailbox but it’s honestly worth it. And after that much time you could even mail it home to yourself so you’ll have a nice postcard waiting for you when you get home.

7. Understand that it is what it is. You'll eventually arrive at your destination and you'll still have a good time and now you'll always have stories to tell. Remember that time when we got stuck at the airport…

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
