7 Youtube Channels for Those Days You're too Bored to Function

The middle of summer is just beginning to drag itself into existence, with it coming the all-encompassing empathy and heat of mid-July. Maybe you’ve used all of your summertime fun during the month of June, or maybe you’re just trying to enjoy a rare day off of work without dying of heat stroke (like me). Either way, it’s too humid to go out and play Pokémon Go (or the server keeps crashing), it’s 2 in the afternoon and all your friends are still asleep (naturally), and you’ve watched every possible thing on Netflix twice. Lucky for you, there’s the entire internet sitting just inches from your face. To get you started on beating the summertime blues and ennui, here’s a list of 10 YouTube channels that put out videos regularly that are actually worth watching.

1. CinemaWins and CinemaSins

I know what you're thinking; "Isn't that two channels?" Why yes, yes it is. But they're so closely related, it doesn't really matter. They both analyze movies, CinemaWins complimenting and counting the "wins" in a movie while CinemaSins does, you guessed it, the opposite. These channels are great for movie buffs and each video is usually good for at least a couple of laughs.

Bonus: My favorite CinemaWins video and my favorite CinemaSins.

2. LastWeekTonight

Growing up, when I saw John Oliver make a lovely appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", I always told my dad how he should have his own show. Dreams really do come true. Not only does he have his own show on HBO, but the network uploads the episodes to Youtube and Facebook weekly. And just to put icing on this sweet delicious cake, it really the most interesting way to get caught up with current events.

3. Button Poetry

So this one is probably just because I'm a big boring English-major nerd, but I spend at least a couple of hours a month on this YouTube channel. Spoken word is cool, kids. (Bonus Channel Speakeasynyc which is less popular but has really amazing performers and pieces on it)

4. Bad Lip Reading

This Youtube channel is a classic, but one of the classics that actually remained good (looking at you JennaMarbles). It doesn't update super regularly, but we've all been neglecting this quintessential channel for long enough that it doesn't matter.

5. You Suck at Cooking

The featured video on this channel is a french fry rap that actually teaches you to make french fries. 'Nough said.

6. Vsauce

This channel is far more lofty and educational than any other on this list, but it's still worth a watch. The videos have excellent graphics and simplistic, comic explanations of some serious science. These videos are long but captivating and a different way to turn your summertime sadness into intelligence. Bonus: Math Magic is mind blowing and wonderful.

7. The Slo Mo Guys

8,183,024 subscribers (as of July 8, 2016 at 10:34 PMEST) assures you the videos are awesome. 130 videos to watch assures you of mind-numbing slow-motion hilarity for hours to come. These guys are a YouTube classic, but not one to be forgotten. And they still upload semi-regularly, so if you watch all 130 videos (congratulations on such a feat) you have more to look forward to!

I hope that this nowhere-near-extensive list helps keep the boredom and heat at bay during the dog days of summer, and all year around! Comment with more fun YouTube channels to help keep the list going for everyone! (And for anyone who is thinking of posting a fake or offensive "prank" video, I have this wonderful bonus video just for you.)

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
