I have a major sweet tooth. It’s no wonder that when I started to make food, I naturally started gravitating towards the baking and sweets pathway of things. Even though I do also love savory dishes (hello, pasta), there’s something about indulging in desserts that’s so incredibly unmatched and satisfying.
Another thing I love is YouTube (I could literally waste away my days on there). As a person who adores the fun of baking, I subscribed to many YouTube channels dedicated to food, for cooking and for baking. The passion and creativity of the hosts in all of these channels is awe-inspiring. Even if you don’t intend on making any of the recipes, it’s still so interesting and relaxing to watch. There are so many baking YouTube channels out there, and I definitely have not hit even most of the amazing ones, but here are seven dessert YouTube channels you should check out!
How To Cake It
Hosted by the talented and creative Yolanda Gampp, How To Cake It focuses chiefly on cake and is heaven for cake-lovers. Though Yolanda is a self-taught baker, it is clear that she was way too talented for culinary school anyways. Her recipe videos walk through her entire process in crafting the most stunning, monolithic cake creations—she makes both artisan cakes (everyday items and popular symbols of carved cake and rolled fondant, such as this beach bag made of cake) as well as mega cakes (towering cakes focused on a specific flavor profile with different textures and finishing touches, such as this chocolate chip cookie cake). Along with her main recipe videos, Yolanda hosts CakeTalk biweekly, a live-stream session where fans can ask her any questions about cake, baking or her life, . Her channel also contains a collection of supplementary videos, such as ones instructing how to handle fondant or make simple syrup. No matter what, even if you feel as though you could never make what she creates, her videos are never boring—Yolanda’s sassy, quirky sense of humor infuses each episode with lightheartedness, filled with her cracking jokes to her team members Jocelyn and Sasha, and is sure to leave you laughing.

The Scran Line
I found out about The Scran Line with his collaboration with Donal Skehan, a cooking Youtuber I watch, and was immediately impressed. As a major cupcake afiando, I immediately loved this channel hosted by Nick Makrides. Every video reflects his immense creativity and many ideas. His videos are colorful, concise, easy to understand and fun, filled mainly with numerous cupcake and macaron recipes (but he makes other desserts as well and has a ton of frosting ideas!). From the cake fillings to the intricate decorations on each cupcake, Nick’s recipes look as though they could be displayed in the window of any fine bakery.

Gemma Stafford
Very adept at both cooking and baking, Gemma Stafford hosts two series on her channel. The first, Bigger Bolder Baking, is the original and more well-known—her from-scratch recipes reflect her hard work, and she adds innovative twists to classic recipes as well as interesting, brand-new recipes herself (for example, white velvet cake). One of her more well-known mini series are her mug recipes—over eighty recipes that can be mixed and layered in a mug, than cooked or baked in the microwave. Besides Bigger Bolder Baking, Gemma also hosts Bold Baking Basics, in which she explains how to make common homemade ingredients, such as flavor extracts or frostings.

Each episode of Cupcake Jemma is hosted from Crumbs & Doilies, a bakery in Soho founded by the the host, Jemma Wilson. Jemma has a sarcastic, sometimes self-deprecating sense of humor, filling each video with spunk. Joy of Baking
While other channels sometimes focus on food trends and vibrant colors, Joy of Baking, hosted by Stephanie Jaworski, is a more traditional baking channel. Jaworski has recipes of just about every single traditional dessert or baked good imaginable, from various biscotti flavor recipes to Christmas cake to chocolate chip cookies. Though her videos are on the lengthy side, it is because she describes the entire recipe process in detail, walks through every step, and demonstrates how to do everything. Joy of Baking is a go-to hub for classic recipes and is a great way to discover desserts that you didn’t know of before (for example, Russian tea cakes).
