The 7 Worst Things About Living in a Dorm
Technique

Moving to college is a HUGE transition for some. Roommates, community bathrooms, being around people 24/7. These are the absolute worst things about living in a dorm.

1. Community bathrooms.

I really hate waking up in the morning after a night of little sleep and going to take a shower and seeing something, I'm not quite certain what is. Is it hair? Did you bring your cat into the shower or something? Did you shave your legs in the shower? Did you shave your head in the shower? How does that much hair fall off of a guy?! AL we are not third graders. FLUSH THE TOILET.

2. The Dining Hall

All I want after a long day of classes is to come home to a nice home-cooked meal - but wait we don't live at home. No, we got to go the dining hall. To be 100% honest, I miss high school cafeteria food. Sometimes everything looks so disgusting I just eat the cereal cause I can't even think about keeping some of the options down.

3. The Elevator

Okay, I live on the 3rd floor of my building so it's not that big of a deal anyways but there is NOTHING worse than when you come home after a long day and want to take the elevator - cause you've reached your stair quota for the day - and you hit the button to your floor and the person behind hits 11. AND THEY GIVE YOU THIS LOOK LIKE "REALLY. THE THIRD FLOOR. REALLY". AND THEY MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY. It's a real struggle.

4. Having people around 24/7

I really hate coming home and wanting to sleep and having the person in the room over or even two rooms over wailing away on their guitar. Or when someone decides to do their homework at 1 am but can't seem to get it right so they scream and yell.

5. Politics

Especially since it's an election year, college freshmen are really political. The worst part about it is that nobody is open minded about literally anything that the opposite side is saying. I mean I guess that's just how politics are in general, but we all live together, can't you at least hear what I have to say? Or writing "FDT" on all the white boards around and "Killary" on all the bathroom stalls.

6. The dramatic ones

Usually, I am the dramatic one that complains about everything. But every floor has the one person, that gets annoyed about everything and feels the need to tell every person to fix it. This person will send a message to our GroupMe message and complain about how someone forgot their shampoo in the shower and how it's the third time that week and we need to keep track of our things. Like, I DIDN'T REALIZE MY MOM LIVED ON THIS FLOOR.

7. Laundry

Laundry is the worst. When you go down to the basement to find that one person has used five out of the seven washers and there are 4 other people in front of you waiting to do laundry. At that point, I don't even know if doing laundry is even worth it. You have to time it perfectly to get a machine.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
