If you're like me, you're always cold no matter what. Whether it's in classrooms, at stores, at the movies. What's even worse for the perpetually cold person is the winter season. It's a very conflicting time, because the Christmas keeps us fuzzy on the inside, but the weather brings goosebumps galore on the outside.
I've been a perpetually cold person for 19 years now, so here are my best tips for keeping warm in the winter time:
1. Hot coffee, hot chocolate, hot soup, anything HOT!
Hot drinks hands down do the best job keeping you extra warm during the winter time. Once the warm goodness of a cup of hot chocolate is in your system, it warms your whole body for a good while. I recommend keeping a bag of hot chocolate or a can of soup in your bag; that way you can heat it up if you're at the office or school.
2. Layers on layers on layers
This makes a huge difference-- especially in the bone-chilling wind. Make sure to layer not only shirts, sweaters and jackets, but also socks and gloves. Your hands and feet are the parts of your body that get the coldest during the winter time. An extra pair of socks will go a long way. Consider wearing leggings under pants for added warmth.
3. Always have back up
Keep a back up sweater in your car or office at all times. You never know when you're going to walk into a chilly situation. Instead of wishing you brought an extra sweater, always have comfort in knowing you have an extra. Believe me, you'll thank yourself later.
4. Space heater for after showers
If you're allowed to have a space heater where you live, make sure to get it right away. There's no worse feeling than coming out of a hot shower only to step into a cold bathroom. The space heater will keep the bathroom warm while you change and get ready as the shower condensation warmth fades.
5. Pre-heating the car in the morning
Those dreaded 10 minutes you spend in your car waiting for the A/C to get warm can be prevented with this extra step in your morning routine. Face that minute of cold of going outside to turn on the car to save yourself the shakes while waiting for it to heat up during your morning commute.
6. Slippers
Cold tile and exposed feet are a big no no. Keeping your feet warm creates a domino effect to keep the rest of you warm. Get the fuzziest slippers you can and make sure to keep them nearby.
7. Heated blanket
This is the biggest piece of advice I can give to perpetually cold person: INVEST IN A HEATED BLANKET. This investment will save your life every time. You set the blanket as warm or as blazing hot as you want. It encompasses your whole cold body into a sea of warmth and coziness. It comes in clutch coming home after a day of being in the cruel, cold air. Just turn on the blanket while you unwind and experience what it's like to be inside of a perfectly warm kolache.
Stay warm this winter!
