Let's be real, we all do things with our best friends that would be considered extremely weird and "socially unacceptable," but who cares about that?! Best friends are made to be just as weird as you and in the spirit of this past holiday, what better way to show how thankful you are for your best friend than with a list of the weird shit you guys do together?
1. Ask Random Questions
I don't know if it is just because I'm a writer or because my mind is ever so found of coming up with random questions, but I always find myself reaching for my phone looking for answers from my best friend when they come. I legitimately had a 30 minute conversation about metal fire escapes once with my best friend via text message. Text books were brought out. It was bizarre and I love them for it.
2. Spending Hours Together & Not Talking
I feel like this is the least bizarre thing that will be on this list, but still in hindsight, it is a little weird. Think of it this way, you go out of your way to make time in your schedules to spend time with each other and when you finally meet up you talk for a little and then just silence. Maybe you both are on your phone or maybe you're just laying there listening to music. It's weird, but strangely relaxing and comforting. There is just that feeling that whatever you may be doing, there is someone at your side right there with you.
3. Insulting Each Other Like No Other
I love my best friend to death, but that doesn't mean I will not miss an opportunity to poke at them whenever I can. Let's be real, we're not really friends until I can insult you and you me without anyone getting upset. It's all in good jest, right?
4. Mimicking Each Other
The other night I was laying on my bed next to my best friend as we watched TV and I look over to see that we are the exact mirror image of each other down to how our arms are thrown over our head and the way our legs are crossed. It was freaky and it doesn't stop there! Best friend often pick up each others mannerisms and speaking habits. To outsiders it's like watching twins, but to you it's just another normal day.
5. Having Your Own Language
This can be translated (no pun intended) in a variety of ways. For me and my best friend it is a series of grunts and mumbles or rather being able to tell what a person is saying when their mouth is stuffed full with food. For others it may be made up words or code names. I've even seen people make up an entire language. The fact remains is that while you and your best friend may perfectly understand what the other is saying to everyone else it might as well be Russian.
6.Text Each Other Without Context
Tell me you haven't received some sort of message from your best friend without any sort of context whatsoever but you immediately know what to do. With my bestie, it's either a song or tv show to watch. Others it is emojis or stickers or maybe just a single word. Either way when you get that message you're already on it while everyone else is left scratching their heads.
7. Getting Weirdly Touchy
I don't know what it is about getting close with someone, but after you reach a certain point, personal boundaries just stop existing. I cannot tell you how many times I've been groped and poked in the chest by some of my best friends and think nothing of it. Not even a flinch. Meanwhile everyone else in the store is completely baffled. Best friends man.
Best Friends are so weird, but I'll be damned if I don't love mine to death. I would be lost without them and the weird shit I've come to accept and expect from them.
Life just wouldn't be the same.
