Even if you aren't a morning person.

7 Ways to Start Your Morning Right

I am not a morning person and getting out of bed is something that I really struggle with. Lately, I have been trying to incorporate a couple things into my morning routine to make the rest of my day a little bit easier.

1. Get enough sleep

There is nothing worse than waking up feeling like you haven't slept a minute. When your first question when you wake up is, "What time do I get to do to bed tonight?", the day will be unbearably long. Go to bed early to make getting out of bed a little bit less difficult than what it already is.

2. Give yourself enough time.

Be realistic with how long it will take you to get ready for your day and set your alarm appropriately. Then, GET UP when the alarm goes off. I am someone who snoozes my alarm for like half an hour before I actually get out of bed. I've been working on cutting down the snoozes and actually getting out of bed. Normally if I fall back asleep for the 9 minutes between snoozes, I wake up feeling more groggy and tired than if I just would have got out of bed.

3. Lay out your clothes for the day the night before

This is something my mom had me do when I was a kid. As I got older and stopped doing it, I realized this is something that takes me some time, especially if I need to be business casual or business professional for classes. By laying things out the night before, I don't have to try things on in the morning, see what matches, or make any decision regarding clothes. Just put the outfit on.

4. Organize your bag/items that you need the night before

How many times have you been crunched on time and then you can't find something that you need for your day such as a computer charger, running shoes, or textbook? I then have to take that time to remember the last time I saw it while panicking. Now, I put everything back in my backpack after studying at night tat way I don't have to release a search party for my lost SurfacePro pen at 6:45 am.

5. Exercise

There is no better feeling than getting your workout out of the way bright and early. I personally feel like I am significantly more productive in the morning if I work out than if I don't. it is out of the way for the day and it is a great way to wake you up more by getting your blood flowing.

6. Don't skip breakfast

I normally am not a breakfast person, but lately I have been trying to put something in my stomach before I walk out the door. I may not currently have the time or make the time for a full scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast breakfast, but having something for breakfast starts your day off right. Try to incorporate some protein into your breakfast as well. Recently, I have learned about microwave mug scrambled eggs. I crack 2 eggs into a coffee mug, microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds, then add shredded cheese.

7. Drink something warm.

I personally am not a big coffee person unless I am running on little to no sleep. I tend to drink green tea in the morning or hot chocolate. Having something warm to drink in the morning soothes my grumpy attitude and makes my morning a little less miserable. I am not nice in the morning, so this takes the edge off.

This is the way I make my morning a little bit easier. I am trying to turn my night-owl personality into a little bit more of an early-bird. Additional tips appreciated.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
