7 Ways To Self-Love
evolving wisdom

Most of us know the struggle of trying to love ourselves. It's not the easiest thing, especially when we notice every single one of ours flaws. Sometimes we feel fat; sometimes we feel ugly; sometimes we feel like a failure. Whether it's our looks, academics, athletics or skills, we are always beating down on ourselves. Let me tell you a secret: This is NOT healthy thinking. It's time to stop being so hard on yourself and to start doing things that will make you appreciate how wonderfully unique you are. Here are some ways that you can show YOU just how much you love yourself!

1. Write a list of all your positive attributes.

Get a piece of paper out and write down the things that you like about yourself. This can be hard, but it shouldn't be. There are many amazing things about you; try to pick some out. Are you good at art? Maybe you're a style guru. Do you have pretty eyes? Do you love your humor?

2. Compliment yourself once a day.

It may seem a little odd, but look in the mirror and compliment yourself. Do it! Look at that awesome face looking back at you and tell yourself that you're pretty, that you're smart, that you can do anything because you are you.

3. Write encouraging notes to yourself.

This can be fun. Keep a stack of post-it notes and write inspiring and encouraging things on them. Then post them as many places as you can. Put them in your car, in your notebook, on your mirror, in the fridge, etc. You never know, it might just make you smile.

4. Wear your power item.

Whether it's a pair of sneakers, a purse, a pair of sunglasses, a shade of lipstick, your favorite shirt or your faded jeans, find that item that makes you feel powerful and confident and wear it!

5. Try something new.

Okay, it doesn't have to be as bold as skydiving, but find something you've always wanted to do, and do it! You might really like it.

6. Make a list of goals you want to accomplish and believe that you can do it.

Time to grab some paper again and write down want you want to do in your life. The most important thing is believing that you can accomplish this and knowing that it's possible. Believe in yourself.

7. Accept compliments.

It can be hard to accept compliments, but if you start believing what other people tell you is true, you might just gain a lot more appreciation for yourself.

It's time to start self-loving yourself!

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
