The typical New Year's resolutions can be a tad annoying, so enjoy some of these life alterations for a wonderful new year!
1. Start journaling.
One of the best things I've ever done for myself, and for my sanity, is journaling my everyday thoughts. Honestly, it's probably better that some of the things I say are kept in a journal, tucked away than out in the world. I'd probably offend some people.
2. Grow a plant.
One of the most satisfying things ever, I swear. Watching that little guy grow from a seed into a full on living being is a pretty cool accomplishment. It's basically like raising a child, minus the dirty diapers.
3. Make time to read one book every month.
Look, if you have time to binge watch all nine seasons of The Office you have time to get reading. Some books are actually really interesting when you aren't being forced to read (thanks, high school.) Crack open some Sylvia Plath or Truman Capote, jump in your bed, and let your imagination go wild.
4. Take a cool new class.
Zumba anyone? Or maybe glass blowing for my adventurous readers? Do something you've never done before and get out there! There are so many places and cool classes waiting for you to explore. Get painting! Try a new cooking class. Do what you love.
5. Start a blog (or vlog).
Ranting just became glorified! Start your own blog — anonymous or not — on anything. Maybe even in a few months, you could become a web sensation. This can double as a new hobby and a really secretive therapy session.
6. Save up enough money for something you really want.
That new car you've been thinking about? Or maybe even that really cool new iPhone 7 that just came out? It might seem so far out of reach, but in time you could be the owner of something you've always wanted with only your hard earned money. No better feeling than earning something yourself.
7. Do something good for someone each day.
Make it your priority to make another person's day. Send a nice text, hold the door for someone, or even pay for the person behind you at Starbucks. Doing a good deed can feel really good, but imagine doing 365 good deeds.
