7 Ways To Get Your Life Together This Summer

Summer is here, and after being home for a week I started thinking of what I wanted my summer to be this year. I knew that I need to recover from a stressful year, but I also knew that I really want to put myself in a good place to start my next year! These are the things that I came up with for myself, and I think that they can apply to everybody! Here are a few ways to get your life together this summer and how to make the most of it.

1. Do things that you LOVE

For me, this is going to the beach, but you could go for a hike, have a sleepover with your best friends, or even do some Netflix binging!

2. Make some money

Having a job in the summer is a not only great way to save up for school, but can also be super fun! Not only have I made friends at summer jobs, but I have learned important lessons about independence and what it is like to be employed.

3. Make some lifestyle changes

Whether it is switching from chips to blueberries as a go-to snack or trying out a new workout class like Barre or Crossfit, your freshman 15 will thank you!

4. Go somewhere you've been wanting to go

This could range from something right near your home that you just haven't gone to yet, or a different country! Just remember that something doesn't have to be foreign to be an adventure, and if you can find adventure in a 10 minute drive, do it.

5. Do something that you have been putting off

Summer is a great time to get things done that just couldn't happen during the busy school year. Get your driver's license, clean out your closet, or paint your room!

6. Spend time with people that you've missed

Summer for many college students means seeing friends and family members that you haven't seen in a while. It is definitely the most exciting thing about coming home for me! Spending quality time, sharing stories, and making new memories with these people while you can is a definite happiness booster.

7. RELAX

Relaxation should be everyone's main goal in the summertime! You just finished another year of school, celebrate and treat yourself.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
