There is a huge difference between giving up and just simply knowing when it is time to move on. Sometimes stepping back is actually a step forward when it’s time to walk away and prove you have had enough. You will find yourself living a much simpler and happier lifestyle if you learn to avoid all unnecessary stress like it’s the plague.

1. Surround yourself with positive vibes only.

Disregard all negative energy. It is not worth it. Simply change your mindset and move along.

2. Cheaters never prosper.

You will get caught and karma will come for you eventually. Spare yourself and everyone else the trouble and just be a genuine person. People will enjoy your company a heck of a lot more. I promise.

3. Care less about the people who talk behind your back

They are behind you for a reason. Take a hint. Make sure you around people you want to be like. You are who you hang out with.

4. Don't spread rumors.

It only causes more drama and drama leads to negative energy. If there is not a point to the conversation it is unnecessary. Do not tolerate useless gossip. People hate people like you.

5. Don't be afraid of confrontation.

Face to face conversations make life so much simpler. It lets people know how you’re truly feeling. You can usually see it in their face. Do they care or do they not? Does there face light up when you talk? You can only read what a person says through the phone but you can’t read a person without confrontation. It is easy to be someone else through the phone but in person you discover their true colors.

6. Don't make excuses for your own bull crap.

Don’t make excuses for yourself. We are all human and no one is perfect. Besides, the only thing standing in between you and your goal is you and your bullcrap story you keep telling yourself about why you can’t achieve it.

7. Tell it how it is or not at all.

Blunt people are the best kind of people. People like it when you’re real with them. It is a sense of honesty and that is a very rare thing to find in someone these days. Make a point to be that friend that others count on. Always say what you mean or don’t waste your breath.

Only you can make it happen.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
