Chestnuts are roasting on an open fire and Jack Frost is nipping at your nose. Christmas is right around the corner bringing families together and teaching the true meaning of Christmas to the hearts of children through Good Ol' Saint Nick aka Santa Clause. We're back to the time where Christmas Cheer is literally everywhere (Have you not looked outside recently? It's a bit crazy.). So if you aren't already, here are a few things to toss yourself into the Christmas spirit:

1. Join the Christmas Jingles

Stop avoiding the Christmas music; it's inevitable. You're not hurting anyone but yourself, so you might as well join in. They're catchy, and when you sing them with family or friends it's even better, but always save room for your solo.

2. Bake Cookies

You can't go wrong with Christmas cookies. They're jolly and delicious! So get creative with some Red Velvet Santa Hats or be traditional with some Chocolate Chip Cookies. Both are great. I mean, come on, they're cookies. You can't go wrong.

3. Wear Your Ugliest Christmas Sweaters

I know this one sounds weird, but come on. They're festive, comfy, and even though they're hideous they're still somehow cute. I mean, it could be worse. You could be wearing a giant pink bunny onesie because your aunt keeps forgetting you're a boy.

4. Get Your Decorations Out

This is the time to show off just how creative your juices run. So pull out the Lights, the Tinsel, the Wreaths and the Fake Snow and get started.

5. Start Shopping

As crazy as it sounds, the best part of Christmas is seeing the looks on people's faces when they open the gift you bought specifically for them. It's a warm feeling, but what could you expect when we're in the Season of Giving?

6. Help Somewhere Where It's Needed

Just like number five there is something about giving back to others that just warms your heart. So go help out. Anywhere! Whether it be the soup kitchen, a shelter, or the Salvation Army, help is always needed.

7. Watch as Many Christmas Movies as You Possibly Can

This is a time where you can binge watch Christmas movies as much as you please and it's not frowned upon. My family and I have a tradition of always watching three Christmas movies on Christmas Eve and it's the same ones every year. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", "A Christmas Story" and "The Polar Express". These are moments I'll cherish forever, and even though I didn't know it as a kid, these movies taught me life lessons that some of the best things can't be seen, but that it doesn't make it any less real. And that no matter what, as long as you have faith and believe that's all you'll ever need. Take this opportunity to make your own memories.

Hope these ideas put you in the Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
