Do you have trouble falling asleep sometimes? Many of us do, whether it's in regard to being anxious or simply not being able to quiet your mind! Here are 7 ways that could potentially help you fall asleep faster!

1. Avoid bright lights before bed

That includes your phone.

Looking at anything too bright before bed interrupts the flow of melatonin to our brain. This chemical let's our brain know that it is time to go to bed!

2. Don't overeat before bed

Even healthy food can leave you feeling stuffed.

Going to bed with a full stomach can cause discomfort in your gastrointestinal system and could have you tossing and turning for hours.

3. Try clearing your mind before you lay down

Breathe in... breathe out.

Sometimes quick meditation practices can help ease tension in your body and mind and allow you to relax yourself.

4. Count sheep

This method actually has more to it than you would think. Besides counting sheep, you can try counting backwards by two or other boring mind games. The idea is to put oneself to sleep by inciting boredom!

5. Recite a prayer (or mantra)

It helps!

One great way to help yourself go to bed is to recite a prayer. And if you're not religious, write down a good mantra that helps to calm you down and clear your mind. Then, repeat it!

6. Avoid having too much noise or light surrounding you

Keep it peaceful.

Night lights and music can sometimes do the opposite of making us tired. Instead, keep the room as dark as possible and keep it quiet! This can sometimes help your mind remain calmer instead of focusing on a source of light or sound in the room.

7. Avoid drinking alcohol before sleeping

No night caps!

While, historically, doctors have actually prescribed alcohol to help patients sleep, it actually ruins a person's sleep cycle and might end up making you feel more tired in the morning.
