7 Ways To Do NYC And Not Look Like A Tourist

After going to the same city for many years, you don't want to be called a "tourist."

Everyone loves exploring new and different things when they go on vacation. After going to the same vacation spots for many consecutive years, you don't want to be considered a tourist, but you are still looking for new things to do. In New York City there are always new things opening up, and you can find fun activities to do without looking like a tourist.

1. Go for a run or walk in Central Park.

The Central Park Reservoir, which is about 1.6 miles around, is a perfect distance for a quick run. For a longer run, you can do the outer loop of the park. Whichever route you choose, you will be overwhelmed with the amount of people going on a run, walking to work, or doing yoga class on the lawn.

2. Grab some lunch at Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Smorgasburg is only open in the summer on Saturdays and Sundays. It is definitely very crowded, but it has endless options of delicious food, and once you grab your food you can walk around Williamsburg.

3. Go to a show at the Comedy Cellar.

Comedy Cellar has hosted classic comedians like Chris Rock, Ray Ramano, Dave Chappelle, and many more. You may even be lucky and get a guest star appearance at the end of the show. I went over Christmas break one time, and while we thought the show was over, Chris Rock comes in and the show continues for another hour.

4. Grab a slice from Patsy's Pizza.

This may be a little touristy, but Patsy's Pizza is a must! It is the best pizza I have ever had, and you can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

5. Grab a cookie, or three, from Levain's Bakery.

This is also very well known, and if you go to the wrong store, you can be waiting in line for hours. Going at the right time and to a not-as-popular destination will get you straight to the front of the line. Even if you have to wait in line, you won't regret it after you take one bite of their chocolate chip cookies.

6. Go to Wineries or Breweries in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Red Hook not only has great Wineries and Breweries, but while you sip on your beer or wine, or both, you can take in the amazing views of the Hudson River. There are all different places and types of beverages to chose from.

7. Ride the tram to Roosevelt Island.

The views while riding the Roosevelt tram are spectacular. You take a ride from the East side over the Hudson River and get a great view of the city skyline. You then get a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle while walking around Roosevelt Island.

I have been going to New York City since I was born, and I have still been able to find new things to do every time I go. And it is also okay to do the touristy things because people occasionally do touristy things in their own city.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
