It's flu season and everyone's running to either get their flu shots or get cough medicine. If you're one of the unlucky ones like me, you're probably sick now and thinking about all the days you weren't sick and how you took them for granted. Have no fear, you are not alone. Though being sick sucks, we all know that pain is temporary and our sniffling will soon come to an end. In the mean time, here are 7 ways to feel better when you are sick.
1. Snuggle up
When you have a cold you might feel, well, cold. It's easier to be affected by changes in temperature when you are sick. Your body's busy trying to kill off whatever virus is attacking you,not to mention that you may feel a little feverish. Snuggling up with some cozy blankets might do the trick.
2. Drink tea
I love tea and it has some great health benefits, especially when you're sick. Hot tea soothes your throat and comforts your aching body. Chamomile, green tea, and eucalyptus are great teas to pick up at the store. Adding honey to them also adds that extra soothing kick your throat is begging you for.
3. Sleep well
Your body does a great job at getting better while you're sleeping. When you're sick, you need the most sleep you can get. I mean, you're already walking around sluggish and not feeling well, imagine how much worse it would be if you were sleep deprived.
4. Drink lots of water
Drinking lots of water will give you that extra hydration you need. Don't be afraid to pack a water bottle everywhere you go. The more water you drink, the better you'll feel and the faster you'll get better!
5. Take a day off
Working a 12 hour shift when you are sick is not a good idea. Not only will you get everybody else sick, but you're putting strain on your body while it's trying to heal itself. Take a day off, lay in bed, and sleep all day. You deserve it.
6. Gargle salt water
If you ever complained to your elementary school nurse of a sore throat, they probably told you to gargle with salt water. Take a glass of warm water, add salt, gargle. It's that easy. This will help soothe any soreness you have in your throat, and it'll help you avoid taking those nasty cough syrups.
7. Soup
Kind of cliche, I know, but totally accurate. Soup can take your sickness to a whole new level. The warm soup going down your throat soothes you from all of the coughing you've done. Not only that, but it also warms up the rest of your body. Whether it's chicken noodle or tomato, you can never go wrong with soup.
