Based off what I have been seeing in the media these days, it seems like there is a whole lot of negativity circling around. I know for me, personally, negativity leads straight to me having a ton of anxiety. So if you are also feeling anxious these days here are a few ways that you can hopefully get past those feelings.

1. Take a deep breath.

Take a step back from everything and take the deepest breaths you can. In through your nose and out through your mouth. As cheesy as this sounds (and as hard as it to do) deep breathing can help slow your heart rate and calm your mind.

2. Get some fresh air.

Fresh air always helps with anxiety. So go for a walk around the block, sit on your patio, go swimming, or biking. Whatever it takes to get you outside.

3. Do something relaxing.

With this, you have to pick something that you personally enjoy doing. Whether that is reading a book, painting, listening to music, watching your favorite movie, or going shopping, find what it is and take time out of your day to enjoy yourself.

4. Drink a glass of water.

This sound like such a simple thing, but I have found that if I just stand still for a minute and drink a glass of water it really calms your mind. It forces you to stop focusing on whatever you were focusing on for a moment calm your thoughts. Sometimes going through the motions of a simple task can ease your mind.

5. Talk to someone who is good at calming you down.

For me this is usually my mom, or if I need a quick laugh, my sister. They almost always know what to say to get me to calm down, and will usually stay on the phone with me until I start to feel a little better.

6. Exercise.

This is definitely something I would suggest as more of a long-term fix. Aside from being outside, exercise is a great way to feel better physically. It is never a bad idea to get those good endorphins going.

7. Listen to music that calms you.

This one gets a little tricky because some songs that you would normally enjoy might cause you to get more anxious than you were before. But picking a nice, relaxing song can help drastically change your mood and put you in a much better place.

8. Remind yourself of the things that are going right in your life rather than the things that are going wrong.

No matter what is going on in your life, there is always at least one thing to be thankful for.

Dealing with anxiety is never an easy thing. Even just thinking about these feeling and how hard they are to deal with starts making me panic a little bit. But it is important to know that you aren't alone and that it will get better. Just take a step back, breath, and know that everything is going to be alright in the end.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
