Okay, it has come to my attention that some people are not as well-educated about Christmas movies as me. I mean I have yet to see every Christmas movie known to man, but from my twenty years on this earth, I know Christmas movies. My roommates consistently mention to other people how obsessed with Christmas I am, and it doesn't just stop at basic Christmas knowledge to decorations; movies are a must. So I have decided to make up a list of seven of my all-time favorite Christmas movies so you too can enjoy this holiday season to the max! Let's get started!
1. Holiday Inn (1942)
Bing Crosby singing. Fred Astaire dancing. I don't even know why I have to elaborate more on this, but I shall. You know that classic Christmas song, White Christmas? You know that movie White Christmas? Well funny story, this is the movie where this song actually comes from! Travel back in time in this black and white triangle love story that continues to be a holiday classic.
2. White Christmas (1954)
Speaking of White Christmas...this is another classic that is a must watch! It's when technicolor was first being played with and it was spectacular! Two war veterans, turned mega superstars travel to a Vermont inn with two sisters to play a Christmas show and realize that the inn is now run by their former commander in World War II. A charming and heartfelt movie that makes you want to snuggle up by the fireplace and drink a nice cup of hot cocoa...with mini marshmallows of course.
3. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
Charlie Brown is trying to figure out the real meaning of Christmas. He and his friends put on a Christmas play to try to help him find the reason. The music, the tree, and everything in between are why this movie continues to take me back to the innocence of my childhood and emphasize the reason for the season. Thank you Charles Schulz.
4. A Christmas Story (1983)
All Ralphie wants is an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. And all his mom wants is for him not to shoot his eye out. Check out TBS to watch this holiday film all Christmas day long! (No, really, they play this movie for 24 hours straight and it is amazing).
5. Christmas Vacation (1989)
Oh Griswold family, how we adore you and your craziness. Who doesn't love a little family drama where a patriarch wants a perfect family holiday and everything goes wrong? It's even better when their neighbors are Todd and Margo and somehow their carpet gets all wet; watch the movie to find out how.
6. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Now don't get me wrong, I love the cartoon version, but Jim Carrey does such an amazing job as the Grinch and it is definitely worth watching. Also, I have realized even more that I relate to the Grinch as a college student more than I would have ever thought possible.
7. Elf (2003)
I would just like to make a formal apology to each of my friends that have ever had to watch this movie with me. Thank you for your patience as I quoted every line of this movie with precise perfection. For those who have never heard of this movie, I would like to take a moment of silence as you have never had the pleasure of watching Will Ferrell go through the seven layers of the candy cane forest, or past the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and lastly, the Lincoln Tunnel.
Trust me, there are plenty more that I could write about, but these are just a few of my ultimate must watch of the year! I hope the lights on your Christmas tree are bright and your holiday be merry!
