I never understand how people say that long distance romantic relationships are hard!? Have you every been apart from your actual person? The person that knows everything about you? The only one who really knows how to make you happy? Your relationship is perfect, except for the hundreds of miles that separate you.
1. Missing out on conversation
Let's face it, when it comes to your best friend and you, not talking for three days literally feels like a month. Who knows what could have happened in those 72 hours of no contact! Should you check in to make sure they're still alive? Yes. Most likely they are really busy or sleeping. Seriously though, living apart from your best friend is really hard and even though you try to call each other a few times a week, the struggle to find an allotted time to talk can be really challenging. While social media helps, you can't help but feel like you are missing out from their life.
2. They are your biggest supporter.
Even from far away, they support you through the worst and cheer you on through the best. Life can be pretty overwhelming and sometimes it's nice just to have someone (other than family), tell you that you are doing okay, and you're get through it. No matter what the decision is they will be there. Unless they know that it might actually be disastrous, like those bangs. (thanks girl).
3. You bring them up in any and all conversations.
This is so true it hurts. Since we've been living hundreds of miles apart I constantly bring up my best friend up in any conversation. I will actually find a loophole in a conversation to weasel her name in there. "oh you like water, my best friend likes water"
4. You miss THEIR family.
Let's be honest, they have pretty much become your second family anyway. They've known you since you were little, you've been on vacation with them, and leaving them was really hard too. You always ask how they are and you make sure that you stay on top of everything going on in their lives. Whenever you or your best friend make a visit to home, you always have to check on the family, maybe catch a movie with their brother or dinner with their mom. Casual.
5. You miss the inside jokes that you two share.
I'm talking about the inside jokes that have literally been around since you two met. The ones that only you two could possibly know. This also means that you can only share them together.
6. You stalk each other's social media.
This is done for a few reasons. Mainly to make sure that you always know when something exciting is going on but also to make sure that when one of those phone calls happen you don't get left out in the cold about their crazy weekend in Miami and you can always pursue questions. A good creeping is always in order when a bomb new selfie is posted. The last reason could see if any new people pop up in their lives. You two have literally been best friends since middle school so this friendship is on locked down. Nobody could threaten this, but it is your job as the best friend to keep an eye out for potential boyfriends.
7. Being reunited
Finally! Seeing them again is like Christmas morning! So much to do and so much to talk about. Most likely you will cherish this time together by watching movies and eating junk food. That is the best thing about your shiny golden best friend, no matter how old, educated, or successful you get they will always accept the real you. They knew you when you wore braces and pigtails in your hair. They have been there for all the laughing, crying, break-ups and the make-ups. That's why now matter how far you live apart they will always be your person. No amount of miles can come between that.
