When you're young, being sick means staying home from school and having your mom take care of you for a few days until you're better. You don't have to worry about being behind on your classes or getting bad grades. Your mom schedules your doctor's appointments, or knows just the right over-the-counter medicine to buy. But when you get to college, all of this changes. Mom's not there to take your temperature or make you soup and let her sleep in her big comfy bed. In reality:
You have to buy your own medicine.
And chances are you have no idea what you even need.
It's almost impossible to miss class.
Even if you're sick. It is so hard to play catch up in most college classes, and a lot of the professors start reducing your grade if you miss enough class periods.
You really just feel like this:
Just when you think you're getting better, you'll get sick again.
Because even though you're in college, people STILL don't know how to wash their hands and not be germ bags.
Your social life is gone.
You can barely get out of bed to get food, let alone go do stuff with your friends. And of course when you're sick you miss the the craziest things. Also, if you hang out with your friends, you'll get them sick too and then it'll be a viscous germ circle.
You realize how much of a baby you really are.
There comes a point when you're sick and you realize, "I am 18+ years old and I have no clue how to take care of myself," and literally all you want is your mommy.
You also realize how much you miss your mom.
Let's face it, no one makes you feel better as well as your mom. She is basically Superwoman when it comes taking care of her kids, and she always knows how to make you feel better.
The only good thing about being sick in college is that you can't stay sick forever, and eventually you'll get better!
