.

During the summer, it can be difficult to put together an outfit that beats the heat while still proves functional and comfortable. This is the summer of light fabrics, showing a bit of skin, and sporting fun colors. The industry is shifting from functional to more funky colors and cuts because it’s been way too long since we’ve been able to express ourselves outside of our home offices. Here are some of the top summer trends and how to style them.

Top Summer Trends

By the time summer rolls around, people are ready to shed their coats and winter boots and to trade them in for dresses and heels.

  1. After staying covered and cooped up inside the house, fashionistas are showing more skin than ever with miniskirts. Even though it is a small piece of fabric, it can boast statement shades, prints, or fabrics. Since you are showing skin on the bottom, try a modest top or flowy jacket with chunky boots for a more powerful look.
  2. Strappy accessories are in line with the showing-more-skin trend. Whether it’s a strappy tank top, heels that criss-cross at your ankles, or a skinny belt, the strappy look is in. Match your accessories to a color in your outfit or choose its opposite color. Jewelry and belts should not be too loud if paired with a patterned outfit, but if you are wearing a solid color, then make those earrings and necklaces bright, bold, and patterned.
  3. White suits with defined shoulders are a bold and stylish summer look. Professional and dressy, you can wear these to an event or back to the office.
  4. Another example of skin being in this season is a new underwear as outerwear trend. For example, pair a bralette under an open blazer. For a chic look, try a dress with a fancy cutout that exposes various body parts or lacy underwear.
  5. The feminine feel is in with lacy dresses and pink and purple hues. A satin midi dress with ruffles or tulle make for a frilly outfit for when you’re feeling feminine.
  6. Pleated skirts can be colorful, patterned, bold, black, or white. Especially with a midi-lenth, these skirts are a trend that is very wearable. Sport a pleated skirt at a concert, fancy event, work meeting, or for a casual night out. The best thing about a pleated midi is that it never seems to go out of style.
  7. Highlighter yellow is the name of the color game. Though some may think you look like a walking school supply, this bright, neon color is cool and attention-grabbing. Style it whichever way you want because nothing seems to match it. Camel or beige tones seem to work for belts and purses. Try transparent or black shoes. One thing is for sure—you will be a showstopper in this shocking color.

How Do I Style a Satin Midi Dress?

Let’s flesh out the most popular and versatile summer trend and style it for every event of the week.

Some think a satin midi dress is difficult to style, but it’s shown to be a trend for day or night and even in summer weather. First, look for a cut that flatters your body, like a straight cut for a pear shape while a flowy midi will work for most body shapes. If you want a bolder look, animal prints or patterns are likely to stand out in a crowd.

If you are going for a more casual look, add a T-shirt and tye a small knot at the side and sport a pair of sneakers with your satin midi dress. You could also layer it with a denim jacket for cool summer nights. If it’s a fancier evening event, try an off-shoulder top and heels. For a work meeting or when you need to look profressional, pair it with a blazer.

Summertime can pose challenges for satin fabric, as it can stick to the body and does not absorb moisture. Try adding a cotton lining underneath your skirt so it doesn’t get sweaty.

As for accessories, make sure they match the style of the dress. For example, wear statement earrings with a sleeker, more elegant midi or a black belt and black strappy sandals with a summery floral dress for a trendy look. Brown accessories can also give a summer feel to your outfit.

Let’s talk more about shoes. Almost any midi is going to look fashionable with a pair of white, chunky boots. If you have a dress with a slit, try knee-high boots, either flat or with a heel. Ankle boots with make you look shorter, but this height looks super cute with a midi.

These top trends for summer make us look forward to getting out of the house, to express ourselves, and to enjoy life. The key is to match your outfit to your own personality and style. With so many styling options and creative opportunities, there is no doubt you will feel fresh and confident wearing these summer trends.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
