As you pull up to the school on move-in day, you'll find yourself sitting in a line of cars of freshman just like yourself, who are just as nervous as you are. Stay calm, you'll be there soon, you'll find your room and you'll get settled in. Don't be embarrassed that your family is there, you won't see them for a while, enjoy their company. Get ready to begin this journey, the next four years will be the best four of your life!
Here is my advice to you:
1. Sign up for Clubs or Greek life
I have made most of my friends from this because you instantly find a group of people that you bond with.
2. Mingle with the girls in your hall
3. Have fun
This is single-handedly the best tip I could give. Life a little! I was such a homebody when I first started college and as soon as I started to go out with my friends I realized as long as I was responsible, I could have fun. (This isn't for everybody.)
4. The Freshman Fifteen is real
Unless you go to the gym every day or you're on a sports team, the free ice cream and access to food 24/7 will get to you.
5. Study
College is not like high school, the course work will be more intense. Please listen to the upperclassmen when they tell you not to take a professor, they are saving your life (and GPA!)
6. Explore
Coming to a school across the East coast has given me the opportunity the North wouldn't, sunshine and warm beaches! Find the cutest coffee shops and the most delicious sushi places, you'll find these your third home for the next four years.
7. Call home
They miss you too; their baby has left them.
I hope you enjoy making your first memories in college and being away from home. Hopefully, you'll learn how to work the washing machine and be able to wash your dishes by yourself! The experiences you will have will be worth every penny of the high tuition. Remember... what happens in college, stays at college. I wish you happiness and success, good luck!
