"How I Met Your Mother" is my favorite show of all time. This show has made me laugh, made me cry and totally ruined my life when it ended because I could no longer watch Barney's playbook rules unfold or share second-hand embarrassment with Ted.

I feel as though it is truly underrated, especially when it is put up against other popular shows like "Friends" or even "Shameless."

If you want a show that has realistic lessons, makes you feel something and will make you laugh, this is the show for you. Do you still need a reason to watch HIMYM? Look no further.

1. Nothing good ever happens after 2 A.M.

Ted teaches us that sometimes, it is just better to go home and go to bed before we make the wrong decisions. Anything you do late at night may seem like a good decision at the moment, but the consequences can be greater the next day.

2. Some people are worth a lot of work to keep around.

In this episode, we learn it is very easy to lose track of people in life, but it is more important to keep track on those who matter to us. We don't necessarily have to talk every day to know we care about someone and our relationship with them.

3. Find someone who not only tolerates you but loves ALL of you.

This episode is based on a blind date that goes wrong (for the second time.) He urges his kids to hold out for the person who likes their quirks or abnormalities. Wait for the person who digs your puns, how you wear driving gloves and your obsession with Teddy Roosevelt. Don't settle for someone who tolerates you, settle on someone who loves all of you.

4. Even if you can predict how things are going to go, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Ted and his friends decide to wait to watch the Superbowl when another event must be attended before it. They make a pact to not watch or listen to the game without each other. Unfortunately, the plan unravels and everyone finds out the score and who won besides Ted.

Despite this, they all still decide to watch the game together and watch it as if it was live. It didn't matter that they knew the outcome, what mattered was they had each other's company. Even if you know what's going to happen, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the experience, and that's for all situations.

5. Stop clinging to the past.

Ted, in this episode, gives us some of the most profound advice we need to hear. We cannot keep reverting back to our old ways, clinging to people we shouldn't be with or hold on to that nifty bean bag chair from college because it reminds you of old times. We are constantly growing and learning, so let go of the past.

6. Take chances

Ted is simply practicing what he preaches in this episode. Just take chances and be yourself. Sticking to your comfort zone is no way to live. You're never going to get yourself out there if you don't do something different.

And last but not least...

7. Be legendary

You may think what you are doing is incredible or amazing, but without the right people around you, it is meaningless. Share moments with loved ones, because at the end of the day, they are the best thing life has to offer us.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
