I became sick of constantly having a rushed morning before class. My only alternative was to wake up even earlier to get all the stuff I do in the morning done. I was not a fan of having to lose sleep because of a few tasks that took up my morning. I found a few useful tips that I incorporated the night before that completely gives me a stress-free morning all while not having to sacrifice any sleep.

1. Pick out your clothes.

Have the clothes you want to wear the next day ready the night before. I'm not talking about having a mental outfit ready, no, you need to physically pick out your outfit. When you have the outfit picked out, set it on a chair or dresser neatly piled from shoes to shirt that way when you wake up you already have the clothes there. No time wasted on figuring out what to wear.

2. Charge your laptop.

I can't tell you how many times I would wake up and grab my laptop then get to class to find out it's almost dead, leaving me to ration out precious battery life. Make sure all the electronic devices are charging at night or at least have adequate battery life for the next day.

3. Clean your room.

Before going to sleep, definitely pick up your room and keep it tidy. Put away all the dirty clothes, shove miscellaneous items back into their home, and maybe even vacuum up a bit. The point of this is to keep your morning as stress-free as possible. When you wake up to a clean room it gives that peace of mind knowing your room is tidy.

4. Practice some hygiene an hour before.

Brush your teeth and shower an hour before you go to sleep. Any closer is risking the task even being done since you'll be more and more tired. Because of this, you can wake up feeling fresh because your mouth and body are clean. You won't be oily or smell bad, you will just be left waking up speaking a refreshing "ahhhhh."

5. Plan the next day.

Plan the following day before you go to bed. Write down what needs to be done, goals you may have, and any other crucial information like doctors appointments. Having a well-planned day when you wake up reminds you of the tasks you need to complete.

6. Put the tech away.

Put the phones, iPads, video games, and laptops away. You don't want to be on your phone before bed because looking at Twitter and all the negativity that may be floating around will give you a negative vibe before bed putting a good nights sleep in jeopardy. Technology is also very distracting and may cause you to stay up later than planned also jeopardizing sleep. By taking tech away, you are eliminating stress, which is a huge killer of sleep, and to have a stress-free morning, you'll want to wake up feeling good from a full night of peaceful sleep.

7. Get breakfast ready.

Get the coffee mug and Keurig pod set up. Put the eggs and bacon at the front area of the fridge. Put the pans and utensils you'll need on the counter. Now that you have your morning meal plan set up you can wake up and make breakfast as quickly as possible, saving you time and stress when you're hungry before work or class.

When adding these 7 tips before going to sleep you will notice how much time you saved in the morning by doing a few extra things the night before. This time saved creates room to relax in the morning that ultimately reduces stress.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
