Adjusting to the work load in college can be very difficult, especially if you are an incoming freshman like myself. We all have to handle school work, sports, clubs, and a social life. This can all be very stressful as we feel like we do not have enough time to do everything. The truth is, we all get 24 hours in each day and it is up to you how you choose to spend them. Here are some time management tips that will help just about any college student

1. Have a planner

Writing everything down in a planner is definitely a good way to be organized. This will show you all of your assignments that you need to complete and how long you have to do each one. Also, you are more likely to remember something when you write it down.

2. Take advantage of Google Calendar

Google Calendar is a good way to keep track of all events you have going on. It will ensure that each day is planned out for you and that you do not double book anything. You can have fun creating this too by color coating it.

3. Try to do homework in between classes

Sometimes, it may seem like it is a good idea to nap in between classes on days that you are very tired. However, this is one of the best times to be productive. Since other students are usually busy with class, no one will really be there to distract you from your work. An hour of extra work in the middle of the day can be really beneficial.

4. Get most homework done before the weekend starts

After a long week at school, we are all going to want to have a nice relaxing this weekend. This is difficult to do when we are all scrambling to finish up homework. You will miss out on less social events and free time when you do your homework before the weekend starts. Trust me, you will thank yourself later.

5. Start assignments way before they are due

A due date will creep up on you way before you know it. There will be a huge weight off of your shoulders when you get an assignment done early. Also, you will have more time to do assignments for other classes.

6. Do not stay up too late or wake up too early to finish an assignment

Your body needs sleep in order to function at its best. Never stay up too late or wake up too early to finish an assignment because it will affect your productivity for the next day. You will be more willing to work when you are not exhausted. Unless you are a night owl or an early bird, I suggest you save completing assignments for a reasonable hour of the day.

7. Remember it is okay to say no to your friends

You don't have to go to every party with your friends or you don't have to go to dinner with them. If you have a lot of work to do, then just say no. Simple as that. Friends are important, but school always comes first.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
