7 Thoughts We All Have While In A Group Chat

At some point or another, we've all bee involved in a group chat. Sometimes they are ongoing with family members or high school best friends, and other times they might be for a group project. These group chats come in all shapes and sizes, and there is for sure never a dull moment. So below will be some thoughts I've personally had while being in a group chat at least once in my life.

1. "Thank god for Katrina because she always has the details about what's going on at home."

If it wasn't for girls like her, how would I ever know about the details of home? There's always someone who is going to know exactly what you're missing. Whoever Katrina may be for you, you're grateful to the person in the group chat for always keeping you up to speed on what you're missing.

2. "Why did they just ignore me?"

There's probably been a time where texts have been sent, but yours seemed to somehow fall through the cracks? It might be a funny joke you told or a life or death question you asked and no one responds. It's like no one cared enough to answer!

3. "Why can't I type fast enough?"

Let's face it. When something big is going on, our fingers cannot move quick enough towards that send button. It's almost as if someone's fingers were lighting bolts when they're sending messages during an important time.

4. "Can my phone stop going off for one second please?"

It could be the middle of the night or right in the middle of your midterm exam and the group chat will not stop pinging your phone. You don't want to hear your phone going off all the time, but if it's on Do Not Disturb, you could be missing something super important.

5. "I wish I was home with my friends instead of staying at college for break."

The intense FOMO (fear of missing out) was real this Easter break when a lot of my friends got to go home and spend time with each other. It's hard to see the group organize plans with you not involved.

6. "I'm going to change the group chat name."

Whether it's an inside joke or you're just trying to be funny, we've all changed the group chat at some point or another.

7. "How could I live without these people?"

The truth is, you probably can't and that's okay. Whether these people live down the hall from you or you're all studying in separate states, our phones keep us more connected than ever and we're lucky we have something as advanced as this to keep us all connected!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
