7 Thoughts I Had on the First Day of Fall Semester

Here we go again...

7 Thoughts I Had on the First Day of Fall Semester

Well, it's that time of year again. For some, it is their very first Fall semester of college, and others have been through this before...maybe multiple times. As I made my way through my first week of classes and attempted to get myself into a set schedule again, I realized that I seem to have the same thoughts running through my head during this first week back every single year. For that reason, I have compiled a list of thoughts that I had during the first week of Fall semester.

1. Here we go again...

Yep, that's the very first thing that ran through my head when I woke up on Monday morning having no idea what hall I was even going to for my first class.

2. Is that my alarm? Why did I set that?

Correction...THAT is the first thing that ran through my mind when I woke up on Monday morning. After having the entire summer off of school and going to work later in the day most days, I completely forgot why I was getting up so early.

3. Am I actually going to need this textbook I just spent all of my money on?

Seriously...I get pretty skeptical about these professors when it comes to packing my backpack with 50lbs of books worth hundreds of dollars on the first day, just to find out later on that the book is not actually mandatory. Do I actually need this? Or can I actually save my money for something more important and relieve my back of at least 25lbs right now by taking this meaningless textbook out of it.

4. Why are you walking so slow???

Some of us actually need to book it across campus to make it to class in three minutes so if you could get out of my way, that would be fantastic.

5. Another year of driving around campus aimlessly just for a parking space that is not even close to any of my classes

Glad I pay for this parking pass so that I can not find anywhere to park my car on campus.

6. Why on earth is that girl wearing heels????

I was amazed at how many girls I saw walking up and down hills on campus in heels on the first day of classes. Do you have a death wish? Cause if you trip, it's all over. My advice? Leave the heels at home and try something more comfortable. You're going to class, not a fashion show.

7. Arriving at class and finally realizing that the semester has started and summer is officially over

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
