7 Things Youngest Siblings Can Relate To

Growing up you were called the baby of the family and constantly micromanaged. Here are some scenarios you will definitely relate to!

1. You got away with less because you not only had your parents keeping you in line, but your sibling(s) too.

Your parents have experience raising your sibling(s) so they’ve taken what they’ve learned from their experiences with them and use it on you. The downside of this is they are stricter with how they raise you because of it. And on top of this, your siblings remember how they got away with various acts and become a second parent by making sure you don’t do the same. Can you say major bummer?

2. Hand Me Downs For Years

All of the clothes and toys get passed down to you in order to save money. A frustrating experience when you have a completely different sense of style than everyone else in your family.

3. Constantly Being Micromanaged

Whenever you do something you not only have your parents telling you how to do it, but you’ll also have an older sibling try to step in and tell you the “correct way” to do it. You know what you’re doing, you’re not a kid anymore. None of them have reached this realization.

4. Your Teachers Define You By Your Siblings

Was your older sibling a goody two shoes? A bad student? Straight A’s or barely passing? Well whatever they were, your teachers will assume you are the same. They’ll keep referring to you by your sibling and compare everything you do to them. How wonderful.

5. You Know How To Spin A Story

As a child whenever a sibling was mean to you, you were prepared to cry for mom or dad and tell them a story about how your sibling hurt you. Some call it manipulative, but we called it survival.

6. You Learn To Do Your Own Thing

Everyone in your family is usually busy. Growing up you went to a sibling’s dance recital, band concerts, etc. You learned to be okay with limited attention because your family was busy helping your sibling(s) with their school work and activities. In the meanwhile you occupied yourself with books, drawing and other things. A few moments of the spotlight is all you really need every now and again.

7. You Still Love Your Family

Being under constantly nagged at can be frustrating, but having so many to mentor you can also have it’s plus sides with having help for homework and advice. Even though the whole family still sees you as a baby and treats you as such, you appreciate having so much love surrounding you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
