Spring break has been over for 13 days now, and I'm still having withdrawals. College spring break is almost like a right of passage. Going to a beach or going skiing is a go-to for college kids across the nation. A lot of us here at Oklahoma State hit the beaches this spring break, and if yours was anything like mine, these are some things you miss about being on spring break.
1. The group you went with.
When you go on spring break, most of the time you know the people you're going with very well. Other times you might only know a few of them or have a couple join the group that only one person knows. But after a week of long car rides, beach trips, late nights, and just spending a lot of time together, you will miss the friendships you formed with them. It's not uncommon to see someone you went on spring break with on campus and yell "SPRING BREAK" in passing and just keep walking. You know what they mean.
2. Going to bed at 4 a.m. and waking up at 1 p.m.
Coming back from spring break took a huge toll on my sleep schedule. Staying up doesn't bother me as long as I can sleep in the next day. But when you alter your sleep schedule like we did, when you get home you find yourself still staying up super late but having class the next morning. 9 am doesn't sound early unless you didn't go to sleep until 4 a.m.
3. "How many people can we fit in this car, bed, couch, etc.?"
When you're young and on spring break, why would you want to safely take 2 vehicles when you can just stay with your friends and take 1 car and just cram 13 people in the same car? PS that really happened. For our group at least, we always had more people than we were supposed to in the hotel room or the condo, but that just made us closer (physically and emotionally).
4. Not having homework.
Spring break is the first taste of summer that you'll get until May. No homework, no professors, no tests, NO SRESS! At least until you get back and reality hits, hard.
5. Saying "One time for the one time" WAY more than one time.
I didn't know this saying was a thing until I heard people using it on spring break. But something that I noticed was no one ever just said it one time. It was like 7 or 8 times a day. But whenever you heard that saying, you knew someone was about to do something kinda crazy but definitely entertaining.
6. Going to the beach.
If you're in Oklahoma, you know we don't have any beaches within a few hours. Going to the beach on spring break and just laying out (not getting in the water because Florida was cold this year) was one of the best memories.
7. Making new friends.
Our group of 8 turned into a group of about 15 or more very quickly. Some people we knew before we came, and some people you just meet and keep meeting up every day until you have this big group of people every day. When you go home you miss the ones that don't go to your school, but I'm sure you added them on snapchat and can keep up with their lives.
Spring break 2017 is over, but we're already counting down the days until spring break 2018!
