You've Seen Wicked How Many Times?

I've always loved theater and musicals although I've never been in a play or considered myself an expert by any means. However, most of my friends, my sister, and my boyfriend have either been involved in or obsessed with theater in some way or another. Because of this I've always been kept up to date on the latest plays and songs and spent a lot of time in the theater in high school hanging out and watching rehearsals.

When you know a lot of people who absolutely love theater, there are a few things you get used to hearing.

“Remember that scene from that play I was in six years ago?”

I say yes with an excited smile on my face...but honestly, I'm searching my distant memories for a play I saw once in sophomore year of high school. I barely remember the plot, let alone specific scenes.

“Oh my god, (insert play here) is awesome isn't it?! What's your favorite song?”

I like to think I have a pretty extensive knowledge of plays and musicals. Then suddenly I'm asked about one that everyone seems to have seen but me and suddenly I realize that it's not as vast as I think.

“I'm going to go see Wicked!”

Haven't you already seen Wicked like 20 times?

“Let's listen to Hamilton!” *proceeds to sing every song at the top of their lungs*

I haven't jumped on the Hamilton bandwagon yet. When we’re in the car and they know every song word for word I'm sitting there like, “How?” Maybe one day I'll watch it so I can finally see what all the hype is about.

“I'm going to New York to see Chicago, The Lion King, Aladdin, Wicked, and Rent this weekend!”

What I wouldn't give to have the time and money to see at least five different plays in New York on Broadway. I can hardly afford to see one play with terrible seats.

“You have to hear this awesome song from the SpongeBob musical!”

Someone actually thought to make a musical of SpongeBob Squarepants of all things. Upon being made to hear the song “Bikini Bottom Day” I'm actually intrigued.

“Meet me in the theater after school.”

For most of the school year, my friends were in play rehearsals after school. Therefore, I spent my time after school in the theater watching them goof around and rehearse and found that theater kids are really cool. I wouldn't have traded it for anything.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
