7 Things You Need To Remember During A Hurricane
Business Insider

As we recollect ourselves from Hurricane Irma, we all need to remember that hurricane season is far from over. With that said, we also need to remember much more than that while hurricane season is still in effect. I've compiled a list of seven things that everyone needs to remember above all else.

1. You are not a weatherman.

Listen, you may think you know where the hurricane is going, but truth is, no one does. Your guess is as good as mine. So instead of saying, "Oh that's dumb that they're going to the West Coast of Florida," say nothing because you don't know whether it's correct or not.

2. Stay calm.

Honestly people, we live in Florida. We live and breathe hurricane season, and we've always managed to come out ahead. No need to freak out over something that can dissipate at any moment. Unless it forms literally right next to Florida. You can freak out then.

3. Always be prepared to evacuate.

Yeah, the news channel might be telling you that you're fine where you are, but again, NO ONE KNOWS. Pack a bag and be prepared for the worst case scenario.

4. Keep your gas tank full.

I saw way too many people complaining about how they couldn't find gas anywhere, and they were below a quarter of a tank. Well, honey, if you hadn't let it get so low when you KNEW there was a hurricane around us, we wouldn't be having this problem.

5. Let your family know where you are.

Honestly, family before everything. I don't know how many times I talked to my parents before we met up, but you need to make sure they know you're safe.

6. Stay inside during the hurricane.

I don't know why some of you feel the need to go prove your "manliness" or your "coolness" and go outside during a HURRICANE. This is not a drill people. You're messing with your lives.

7. Stock up on food and water.

Make sure you buy non-perishable food in case of a power outage. You don't, however, need to go to the store and buy yourself five cases of water. I think people forget that they have tap water and can use that to fill up empty jugs, or even your bathtub. Suck it up, buttercup, and drink the water your city provides you.

So, there you have it. A short list of things you need to remember during a hurricane. Not a lot of things, so it's easy to remember.

I'm serious. Remember this. Especially number one. Please.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
