The memes remind us of what we already know - 2016 has been a rough year (and that's putting it mildly).

However, THAT'S ALL IN THE PAST BABY because 2017 has officially arrived. Throw out your calendars and never look back because that's so last year and there are plenty of things to be excited about in 2017.

1. Girl Scout Cookies

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've all heard about your diet Aunt Linda, but even Aunt Linda caves during the season. Resolutions are like rules, right? Made to be broken? Cookies are undoubtedly the best way to ring in the New Year and the children setting up shop outside grocery stores that stare you down when you exit are always the visual reminder that resolutions aren't that big of a deal.

2. Ed Sheeran Is Back And Alive From His 1 Year Hiatus With This Snapchat And I Am Living For It

UNFORESEEN TWIST - IN THE PROCESS OF GOOGLING FOR THE ABOVE SNAPCHAT IMAGE I DISCOVERED THIS TWEET:

HE'S COMING OUT WITH NEW MUSIC THIS FRIDAY. I WAS ONLY AWARE OF THE SNAPCHAT HE POSTED WITH HIS GLASSES AND HIS LITTLE SMILE BUT NOW THERE'S NEW MUSIC COMING OUT AND...SO!!!!! SOON!!! THESE CAPS ARE NECESSARY.

Ginger Jesus to the rescue everyone, this article could basically end here. 2017 has been saved. Nothing else could go wrong. This is a great foreshadowing for the year to come.

But I won't end the article here. Ed wouldn't want that.

3. Solar Eclipse

Ironically red like Ed's hair....hm, interesting...Well, unfortunately the eclipse isn't happening for us Californians, but for those in Southern Cities like Charleston and Nashville - you'll be experiencing something pretty special (and dark). Bonus - it takes place in the summer, which is another season I know we're all looking forward to already.

4. Our Favorite TV Shows Are Back!

Since 2017 can't be flawless, at least we'll have our favorite fictional places to escape to when the going gets tough. "Game of Thrones" returns with its seventh season, "Girls" is going to show its final sixth season, and "Stranger Things" is going to have its second season out and streaming! Speaking of entertainment...

5. The Live Adaptation of "Beauty & The Beast"

My favorite movie of all time since childhood is finally here, and I am absolutely ecstatic about it. If Emma Watson and the trailers aren't enough to stir excitement, the classic haunting melody and set design will blow you away. I'm even so excited I'll ignore the fact that all the characters have British accents when its supposed to take place in a French provincial town! What's next 2018? "The Little Mermaid"? *whispers* please.

6. Drones Deliver Beer And Pizza

Arguably the most important of all human inventions for functional and practical purposes. Are you a hermit that doesn't like making the trek to your mailbox or PO box? Hate going to the grocery store in the middle of studying or just hate people in general? Are you stingy and don't want to tip the pizza delivery guy? WELL HAVE NO FEAR! Machines are once again replacing our warm human bodies and delivering a variety of items necessary for survival like food, pizza (important enough to get its own category separate from food), and any other product you compulsively buy on Amazon. The best thing? It delivers RIGHT TO YOUR DOORSTEP and it gets there in record time. 2017 just leveled up and you can read all about it here and here.

7. Despite The Meme In The Beginning, YOU'RE ALIVE AND IT'S A NEW YEAR!

If we can learn anything from 2016, it's that anything is possible and things change. Now here's to having them change for the better and accepting life's unexpected blessings and curveballs with grace!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
