7 Things That Make New Orleans Unique

"We dance even if there's no radio. We drink at funerals. We talk too much & laugh too loud & live too large, and, frankly, we're suspicious of others who don't." -Chris Rose

7 Things That Make New Orleans Unique

I may be a little biased, but I believe New Orleans is truly the greatest city in the world. I didn't grow up in New Orleans, but if you asked anyone I grew up with you would find out that I never quit talking about New Orleans.

1. Food

New Orleans knows how to do food better than anyone else. The food is so unique that it attracts people from all over the country just to get a taste of authentic Cajun and creole cuisine. The way to a New Orleanian's heart is a big plate of crawfish and a big snowball.

2. Festivals

From Jazz Fest, Voodoo Music Festival, to Mardi Gras, New Orleans knows how to celebrate. There's always something going on. You can always count on New Orleans to give you a good time. The festivals are year-round, the food is endless, and the people are always full of love and kindness.

3. Street Names... Geography in general.

If you're not familiar with New Orleans and their streets, you are bound to get lost. Knowing what the GNO and West Bank and East Bank are, and how to pronounce Tchoupitoulas are essential to knowing how to navigate around the city. The streets have names and in order to get around you must know that Magazine and Tchoupitoulas run parallel to each other.

4. Architecture

Walking through downtown New Orleans is like walking through another country. It's absolutely beautiful and unlike any other city in the country. Even though it floods the second it rains, spending a day in the French Quarter is a day well spent.

5. Language

Only in New Orleans can you chant "Who Dat" and have an entire population know exactly what you're talking about. It's important to always ask "How's ya mom and em?" whenever you run into someone in public. Can't forget the beautiful sayings known by all such as "C'est la vie" and "Laissez les bons temps rouler!"

6. Football

The sport of football is extremely important in Southern Louisiana. In fact, football is what revived New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed the city back in 2005. The New Orleans Saints brought hope to the city. They won their very first Superbowl in 2010 and have given back so much to the community in the past decade. Hundreds of volunteer hours and thousands of dollars later- I can't imagine this city without the Saints.

7. The People

Everyone in New Orleans is always so willing to lend a helping hand. The people in New Orleans know what it's like to be in need and are willing to go above and beyond for others in light of natural disasters and emergencies. Their kindness

New Orleans and all of its uniqueness attract tourists from around the world. I'm proud to call this place home and will always love New Orleans, no matter where I am.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
