7 Things That Are Better Than Being "Hot"
Life Hack

Today there is so much pressure to look perfect all of the time, as if being "hot" is the only thing a girl can be in the world. There are so many other qualities that a girl can possess and that's what makes her really beautiful. Here are seven things that are better than being "hot:"

1. Authentic

Too many girls these days are too caught up in what everyone else is doing, and it’s hard not to be. Social media is so prevalent that everyone sees what everyone else is up to ever second of the day that the pressure of “perfection” is thrown upon girls (and guys). Girls think they have to weigh this much or wear these clothes or have hair that’s this long to be considered “desired." But the people you really want to surround yourself with don’t actually care about any of that stuff, they want to be around you for you, for your authentic self.

2. Kind-hearted

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the selfish nature of some people and become cold. It is really not that hard at all to just be kind to people. You don’t even have to go out of your way to be kind, you just do it. No one likes mean girls.

3. Passionate

People notice when other people are passionate about things. Whatever passion that may be, it’s admirable. Having one thing you are committed to and love doing is what makes you yourself.

4. Hard-working

Having ambition and drive is something that no one can take away from you. You know what you want to get accomplished and you know how you’re going to get there. Having priorities straight is such a redeemable quality for a person to have and it shines through during tough times.

5. Intentional

Being intentional is being conscious of how your beliefs and values impact your everyday life and how you choose to live by them. You intentionally act a certain way. From your body language to the words you use to the values you act out on a daily basis, you know how you are perceived by the world. The definition of intentional is literally “on purpose," so following through with your intentions makes you a more enjoyable person to be around.

6. Confident

Not in a cocky way, but a being sure of yourself kind of way. If you are secure with the person you are then it’s really hard to let things get to you. You’re not afraid to embarrass yourself in front of people because you can just walk it off. You’re not worried what people are thinking of you because you know how you feel about yourself and their opinions don’t matter. That’s the most beautiful thing a girl can be.

7. Intelligent

There’s nothing cute about acting dumb. I’ve never really understood why girls don’t use their brains to their advantage. Having an education is such a privilege, so why not use it? Being intelligent and smart is really all you can ask for.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
