Spring Break is known around the nation as the ultimate party-week full of booze, drugs, and promiscuous young adults. While Panama City is trying to break its reputation as the party-hub, students always find somewhere and someway to party non-stop during their vacation. Although partying is somewhat appealing, this Spring Break, you should consider taking a break from it and taking the time to replenish yourself. School is stressful, and this week off is the only time we are given to take a break. So use your time wisely! Here’s some things you can do instead of partying this spring break.

1. Go on an adventure.

During the semester, there is never enough time to go out and experience something new. Whether you want to hike a new trail, have lunch or dinner at a restaurant your friends have talked nonstop about, or try out a new hobby, now is the time! Plan out an adventure; it doesn’t have to be big or last the whole day.

2. Take care of things that need to be taken care of.

How many times during the semester do you think to yourself, “I’ll do it when I have time”? Well, now you have time! It’s probably been a while since you’ve been to the doctor or dentist, so schedule a check-up just to make sure everything is still going well.

3. Give your bank account a break.

We’ve spent all semester complaining about being broke college students, but then blow hundreds of dollars on our spring break vacation in the blink of an eye. During Spring Break, try to cut back your spending so that you’ll go back to school with more in the bank. You could even work some to make some cash while on break.

4. Catch up on your Netflix List.

Honestly, we probably watch enough Netflix during the semester, but during Spring Break, you can watch Netflix as much as you want without feeling guilty for procrastinating that five-page paper. I’ll be reminiscing my childhood with my favorite Disney movies, as well as watching some new TV series I saved months ago.

5. Sleep in as long as you need.

Personally, I cannot sleep until the afternoon, but I do plan on sleeping in every day that I can. Sleep is something that a lot of college student compromise, which eventually ends up negatively impacting their health. Go to bed before the a.m. and enjoy sleeping in.

6. Clean your room. Do your laundry. Scrub your bathroom.

When you’ve got mountains of homework, it’s easy to postpone any household/dorm chores. Even though it’s not the most exciting thing, these chores need to be done and you’ll be thankful when you can see the floor of your room instead of dirty clothes.

7. Relax like there’s no tomorrow.

We’ve all been stressed the past two months, and it’s not good for us to remain stressed. Do whatever helps you relax over the week and unwind from school. I will be reading a new book that I haven’t had time for and enjoying this beautiful spring weather!

But most importantly--

8. Don’t do school work!

There is nothing more depressing than doing school work over a vacation. Unless you are severely behind in class, use this break to take a break from the work and just relax.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
