The struggles that are only real to your sisters.

As you go through life, there are some things that only your sorority sisters will understand. Why there's glitter in every crevice of your room. Or why when someone starts a chant, you literally have to stop what you're doing to engage in the ritual. These are some things that only my Alpha Chi sisters can truly relate to:

1. "Oh, you guys are the Christmas colored sorority?"

It's scarlet red and olive green, thank you. You are so tired of hearing this from your friends and family when they want to know what sorority you're in. Our colors are beautiful, and just like everything in our sorority, they are symbolic. But I guess if we're going to be the "Christmas colored sorority," doesn't that mean that Alpha Chi is where it's Christmas all year round? I guess that's actually kind of great, right

2. "What's a Lyre?"

The first musical instrument played on Mt. Olympus by the gods. Boom! You have that answer down. Although your friends and family don't understand your new obsession with the lyre, your sisters are on the hunt for all things lyre with you as well. Whether its bookends, necklaces or chairs... you've got it. You love the lyre and all that it represents in alpha chi.

3. "Friends" is our show

Fun fact: one of the writers on "Friends" was actually an Alpha Chi Omega. And what better way for an alumna to pay homage to her sorority than leaving a bunch of easter eggs? If you'll notice in Monica's apartment, there are a few hidden lyres. Coincidence, you say? I think not. If that's not enough proof for you, remember Joey's manager, Estelle Leonard? Wow, doesn't that name sounds really familiar? Maybe because it's also the name of one of our lovely founders? So now the best sitcom ever just got a million times better; you're welcome television.

4. And if "Friends" isn't your show, don't worry. AXO's are all over TV

I get it, not everyone likes "Friends" (I don't know why, but it's possible). So if that's the case, then it's good to know that Alpha Chi's are all over TV. You know Alyson Hannigan, that adorable red head from "How I Met Your Mother" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer?" Yep, she's an Alpha Chi. Or maybe you're really into old sitcoms? Remember that old show from the 60s, "Gilligan's Island?" Well, Mary Ann is Alpha Chi. Or maybe you just really enjoy reality TV, and are currently dedicating every Monday night to watching "The Bachelorette?" Well, remember the very first Bachelorette, Trista Sutter? You'll never believe it, but she's an Alpha Chi too! These are just a few of our alums that we are so very proud of, and make us love their shows so much more.

5. We have the best badge

All Alpha Chi's love our badge and take pride and joy in wearing it. But if that doesn't prove how beautiful our badge is, then maybe the fact that it's in the Smithsonian does. Why does our lovely badge get to be there, you might ask? Because it was voted the "Most Beautiful Greek Pin" by the international jeweler's association. So basically our badge is as gorgeous as the girls that wear it.

6. We are real, strong women

Sometimes I swear that A-Chi-O's are the ones that invented the phrase: "You are a strong, independent woman." Your sisters are some of the sweetest, nicest people you will ever meet. But at the same time, they are strong in their values and will stand up for what they believe in. You love and admire all alpha chi's, for their kindness, strengths and what they believe in.

7. Our founders are da bomb

And finally, the ladies that started it all. Our founders are what we all aspire to be, because they are pure leaders. You don't even have to think twice about listing off these seven amazing ladies.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
