Miami is a vibrant city filled with vigor. It is such a beautiful and perfect place to grow up in and you don't really realize it until you move. The people, the culture and just about everything else makes Miami one of the best cities in the world. It's basically always hot in Miami, the food is always delicious and the beach is just a drive away. There are a million and one reasons why I miss Miami but here are some of the top 7.

1. I miss my family.

Miami is an extension of South America and most Hispanic and Latino families are very family-oriented. I went from spending every day with my family to barely seeing them a few times a year. It's so hard!

2. I miss Miami food.

In Miami, one 15 minute drive will transport you to Cuba, Colombia or Peru. Living where I am, there is one Hispanic food restaurant and it low-key sucks. I miss eating frijoles, arepas and asado. Whenever I do get to visit Miami though, I eat my weight in croquetas.

3. I miss the culture.

In Miami, you greet people by kissing them on the cheek. In Miami, people speak Spanglish rapidly and dance salsa. In Miami, people are vibrant and in touch with their culture. Being a Colombian myself, I miss being able to speak Spanish and just relate to others who understand exactly how I grew up.

4. I miss the beach.

I've always been such a beach baby. I loved knowing that a 30 minute drive is all it took to be in literal paradise. I've been to the Caribbean, the west coast and the east but Miami Beach will always be the most beautiful beach in the world to me.

5. I miss having a person for everything.

In Miami, I have a hair lady, an eyebrow lady, a nail lady and an everything-else-lady. I have people who I trust to handle me, so to speak, and I just haven't found that yet where I live now.

6. I miss the weather.

Call Miami what you want, but the weather is darn near perfect. It is always sunny. It is always hot and amazing. Where I live, it occasionally gets "cold" and while everyone else is wearing shorts, I'm wearing a peacoat because Miami weather spoiled me.

7. I miss living at home.

Living at home means free rent, free food and a free filled up gas tank. Yes, living in "Hotel Mama" has a million perks. Now, I barely have enough money to feed myself and it's so annoying. In Miami, I had a job and all the money from my job went to my faux-luxurious lifestyle. It was great while it lasted, not going to lie.

All in all, Miami is a great and magical city. Not everyone will understand why, but its not for everyone. Regardless, it is my forever home, no matter where I end up!

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.
