7 Things You Do If Your BFF Is 6 Hours Away From You

Mostly miss each other.

There are a lot of things you miss from home when you finally move out of your parent's house. Your mom and dad, your little sibling, your family dog... but for me worst of all is missing my best friend who goes to another school six hours away. For the past three years, we've figured it out and still been attached at the hip. But here are common things that happen with us and I'm sure that happen with you and your BFF too!

1. You miss each other

Once or maybe twice a week I send my fav gal pal the very much used "I MISS YOU SO MUCH" text. It is quickly followed up by a quick catch up on school, boys, last night's adventures and whatever else comes to mind. You usually include a few relevant gifs.

2. You try to learn their new schedules.

Sometimes I need to tell my BFF something minuscule like how good my iced coffee in between class was. Nine times out of 10, she's in class, at the gym or just unavailable. And nine times out of 10 when she calls me back, I'm the same.

3. You fall in love with their new friends

One of the greatest things about college is all of the new friends you make. Some of my friends I met at school will be bridesmaids in my wedding one day. Like me, my bestie six hours away has made new gal friends too! At first, it's weird knowing they tell someone new all of their secrets and see them every day like they used to see you. But after meeting these chicks, I fell in love with them too. Leave it to my BFF to meet the most fun, coolest, greatest friends she could find. And now when I come visit, I look forward to seeing them too!

4. Send memes, lots of memes

I think I sent four just today! Being friends for years comes with a ton of inside jokes. Sometimes I laugh harder at a funny pic because I know my best friend will think it's funny too. She usually thinks it is or she just replies with a "you're so weird." I'm used to that too.

5. Gossip about your hometown

My bestie and I come from a small town. Everyone knows most everyone and everyone loves some juicy gossip. Whether it be scrolling through the latest mug shots or chatting about that girl who was in that guy's Snapchat last night, we catch everything. Sometimes when it's hard to talk about things in our current life that the other might not be able to follow, it's easy to bond over something we both know really well.

6. Send ugly pics to each other.

(Don't kill me!)

7. You send the usual, "I'm coming home!!!!!" texts.

The best of all!!! I love love love when my BFF and I coordinate a play date back at home together! Where it's only an hour back for me, her six-hour drive usually requires long phone calls to keep her occupied and awake. Wine nights and sweet cuddles back home are the best in the world!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
