7 Things I Learned From Sophomore Year

This year I learned I'm bad at not only ice-skating but also sand volleyball, disc golf, and line dancing.

7 Things I Learned From Sophomore Year

Time literally flies, as my Sophomore year comes to an end, I realize how much I have grown. Through my extreme ups and downs, this year has really shaped me into the adult (omg) that i'm becoming. Sophomore year, when most of us will exit our teens and reach our 20's and things start becoming way too real. You're halfway done with college and you can no longer blame things on being a teenager. So, here I will share my knowledge with you from what this year has taught me, and while this is quite limited and i'm not giving you wise advice that your grandparents tell you, this is what I know for sure.

1. People change. I know this is obvious, like duh. However, in college you may not be friends with the same people that got you through your freshman year. People grow apart. Don't be offended. Freshman year we were all scared and just wanted to fit in. Now, most of us dipped our toes in the water and are ready to swim. We just may be swimming in different directions.

2. Get involved. Be involved in something. I know, you were suppose to do that in high school too. This time, being involved goes on your resume and gets you jobs. Everyone likes money. So go out there and make knew friends and join new things, instead of sitting on your couch having Netflix ask you if you're still there after your 8th episode in a row.

3. Go out. You didn't see this coming. Go to parties. Meet new people. However, don't be known as that person that got blackout in the first 30 minutes. Don't be sloppy. However, if the time presents itself to sing cheetah girls in a bathroom with your friends, take it. That is not sloppy, that is called making memories. Or if you decide to start a square dancing ring even though you don't like country music, that's making the best out of an unfortunate situation. Be responsible but have some fun.

4. Delegate your time. In regards to number 3, only go out if you have the time. If you have a 6 page paper and 2 homework assignments due in the morning, don't be an idiot. Do your work. (Get a planner, they are lifesavers. All the cool kids have them.)

5. Download Venmo. We're all poor college kids, so if someone pays for you, pay them back. Venmo takes 10 seconds to shoot someone money for that cup of coffee they brought you at the library. So download it and don't be that person.

6. Do be afraid to say yes, but don't be afraid to say no. Saying yes sometimes is hard. Trying new things isn't always easy, however, college is the time adventures and going out of your comfort zone. So yes, something may not go as planned (like trying a shot of wheatgrass and it dyes your teeth green.) but you may have the time of your life. (Playing sand volleyball until 1 AM and realizing that you suck, because you dove for a ball and it pounded you in the head and everyone laughed. But at least you're having a good time.) That being said, you have to say no. If you don't want to do something, use your voice. Don't be walked all over. No can be good.

7. Bad times don't last forever. Bad things happen. Don't let them drown you. Figure it out and move on.

Here's to Sophomore year in all its glory.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
