7 Things That I Learned In College

It's the simple stuff that you thought you knew, but that you get a whole new view on once you're away.

1. Time Management

Classes aren’t like they are in high school and, trust me, your professor doesn’t give a crap if you don’t hand in your homework. It’s less work for them to grade in the long run anyway. But just because they don’t care doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t. Take the extra twenty minutes to read the chapter or to edit that paper. During finals you’ll be happy that you did.

2. Pinching Pennies

You never really understand the meaning of “broke college kid” until it's a month into the semester and you look at your bank statement. A great way to rationalize your purchases is to think in terms of a Chipotle burrito bowl. (They’re roughly 8 bucks and some change!) Next time that you’re contemplating buying that cute sparkly crop top, think about how many drinks are going to get spilled on it and how many burrito bowls you could have bought instead.

3. Having Good Friends

As much fun as college is, it sucks equally as much around finals time. Having good friends who know when you’re about to cry from the stress without you even having to say a word is key. In the words of Lauren Conrad, "It’s less important to have more friends and more important to have real ones."

4. Take A Chance

Do you see that girl who you sit next to in accounting? Say hi to her as you pass her while walking on campus. Odds are that she’s debating if she should say hi to you too. Or is there a cute guy at the party? Walk up and ask him to dance. So what if he says no? People have survived worse things.

5. Take Care Of Yourself

Be kind to yourself. Yeah, those cookies in the dinning hall might be great, but don’t binge on them at dinner. Also, going to the gym instead of watching your sixth Netflix episode in a row isn’t such a bad idea either. College is your prime and it is supposed to be the best time of your life! Take care of your body while you’re there. Also, don't underestimate the power of a good face mask.

6. Call Your Mom

Everyone says that you don’t know what you've got until it’s gone, which mainly refers to your mom’s homemade mac’n’cheese. Call her and tell her that you miss it, miss her voice, or just her in general. While you’re out having a great time she’s sitting at home worrying about you. Take the extra five minutes to call her and tell her that you love her.

7. Look For The Free Things

As a broke college kid, you can never have too many free tee shirts. Different events on campus will be giving away free snacks. Definitely stop by those, they’re great. You never know who you’ll end up meeting there.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
