My first year of college was not what I expected. It was more like high school than I thought. (It doesn't go away.) There were many things that were different, but going to a small college is like being in high school again. Here's what I learned from this small college in the first year.

1. Don't be afraid to get involved.

Whether it's a sorority, club connected to your major or sport, don't be afraid to do it. It may keep you so busy you feel that you don't have time for yourself, but it will be worth it in the end. You will make some of your best friends through it, and who wants to graduate knowing they didn't do anything fun?

2. Penny pinching.

Holy cow, I have never had to search the couch cushions for money this much in my life. Whether it's for food or bills, you're constantly looking for a penny to help you get the money munchers out of the way. You may have a job, but it won't seem like it at all.

3. How to survive on (maybe) three hours of sleep a night.

The eight hours of sleep you got in high school (who am I kidding, right?) is gone. You now get three hours maximum. You'll be up writing papers, studying, socializing and watching Netflix. Essentially, you'll do anything but sleep.

4. Coffee is your best friend.

You no longer have a choice in this relationship. It is now an addiction. It will keep you somewhat sane for your sleepless ride in college. It will also keep you awake during your 8 a.m. class the next day.

5. Don't procrastinate.

You're probably thinking, "Now you are a freshman and you're already procrastinating?" Yes, and I know I'm not the only one. I tell myself and my advisers all the time that I want to stop procrastinating. Do you think that happens? Are you kidding me, go read number three again.

6. You will sleep anywhere possible.

Who would have thought that you would be sleeping on random couches and floors in random buildings? Not you. I've seen it all: people sleeping under tables, on random couches and even in the cafeteria. The sky is the limit, my friend.

7. Last, but not least. How to manage my time.

Between classes, work, the sorority and meetings you would think that I would be a walking zombie. Well you would be correct, but I would not trade those experiences for anything. They taught me so much and I can't wait to learn more in the next three years.

If you are reading this, know that you are not alone. Also, if you haven't experienced your first year at college, this is what you have to look forward to. It may not sound tempting, but these are going to be the most memorable and rewarding years of your life. Soak it in.

Love,

Your first year college student.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
